#2a: Kyle (Kyle XY) - Freedom
Freedom:
2. release from captivity or slavery: release or rescue from being physically bound, or from being confined, enslaved, captured, or imprisoned
Kyle paced back and forth in his jail cell, worried what lie ahead for him. After discovering a key piece of evidence linking him to both Tom Foss and Professor Kern, he was nabbed by security guards and turned over to police. What he called trying to discover his past, the police called breaking and entering and being thrown in jail. Detective Breen, the detective who had been working on his missing person case, came to his aid after finding out Kyle had been arrested, getting the charges dropped and calling Nicole to come get Kyle.
“No justice, no peace! No justice, no peace!” Josh chanted as he got out the car.
“Josh,” Nicole sighed, slipping her car keys in her purse.
“Free Mandela! Free Mandela!”
“Josh,” Nicole’s voice dropped an octave in warning.
“Rodney King!” Josh thrust his fist in the air as he entered the police department.
“Josh!” Nicole glared at her son, shutting him up. “I’m sorry,” she apologized to a group of officers that was staring at them.
“Ms. Trager,” Detective Breen signaled. Nicole and Josh followed him back towards a waiting area before signaling to an officer to bring out Kyle.
“How much trouble is he in?” Nicole bit her lower lip nervously. She was shamed to admit that out of the three teenagers living in the house, she would have figured Kyle to be the least likely to go to jail.
“I didn’t have to do much talking. The company isn’t pressing charges.” Breen paused as Kyle came into the room. “So Kyle is free to go.”
“I can go?” Kyle was perplexed, looking from the detective to relieved looking Nicole.
“Yes, as long as you don’t break into any more places,” the detective smirked as he escorted the trio to the front door.
“I can’t believe you were arrested,” Josh laughed when they were on their way home. “I thought I would have--” cutting himself off when he saw the look Nicole flashed him through the rearview mirror. They pulled into the driveway and everyone got out.
“Um, so, did anyone try to mess with you in there?” Josh caught up with Kyle, walking alongside of him.
“Mess with me?” Kyle turned to look at Josh, his face twisted with confusion.
“Yeah, did you have to make anyone your bitch?” Josh whispered as if Nicole were within earshot.
“My…bitch?” Kyle went through the dictionary in his mind, coming across two definitions. He figured the derogatory definition was the one Josh was referring. “No, I didn’t. I was alone.”
“Oh.” Kyle noticed Josh seemed disappointed to hear that bit of news. “Well, be glad you didn’t have to go to prison. It’s either make a bitch or be the bitch.” Josh ran up the front porch stairs ahead of Kyle, bounding up the stairs towards his room for some gaming time.
As they entered the house, Kyle dreaded what both Nicole and Stephen would have to say about his latest adventure.
The End.

#3: Kyle - Innocence
Innocence:
5. lack of worldly experience: a lack of experience of the world, especially when this results in a failure to recognize the harmful intentions of other people
Kyle didn’t know what to think about himself. Everyone around him had different opinions, but agreed on one thing: there was nothing about Kyle that suggested he was bad. They offered different words--good, sweet, kind, gentle, to name a few--but there was one word that stuck out in Kyle’s mind. Innocence. Nicole had said it to Stephen one day in the kitchen and Kyle had been on his way to grab a soda for Josh when he overheard them.
“There is just so much innocence in Kyle’s eyes, Stephen. It’s like his mind is a blank canvas…”
“And yet, acts like a computer.”
“Yeah, but the way he looks at the world…”
Kyle didn’t get to hear the rest. Josh came bouncing down the stairs, hyped up on video games and Sour Patch Kids. Kyle rushed in the kitchen to get the soda and handed it to Josh before disappearing into his room, grabbing a dictionary on the way. He sat in his tub, flipping through pages until he saw the definition.
“Lack of worldly experience: a lack of experience of the world, especially when this results in a failure to recognize the harmful intentions of other people.”
That was him, all right. All his worldly experience started the moment he woke up naked in the forest with no memory of how he got there or who he was or why he was missing his navel. Having to re-learn everything like a newborn, only to find out your brain worked more like a computer. And when he did find something out about himself, it always trickled in piece by piece, frustrating him to no end.
If Kyle could have had one wish, it wouldn‘t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. It would be to know who he really was, have all his secrets revealed and get both a past and a future in one fell swoop. If that took away his innocence, then so be it. Some things were more important.
The End.
