Worst Week Ever Update - Best Week Ever!

Two posts in a row tonight - truly epic.

I posted a couple weeks ago how I'd had the worst week I'd ever had.  I feel the need to finish the documentation on that one - I actually had the worst 3 weeks ever, capped by that week and the one after, which were then followed by one of my best weeks ever.

When I last left off: for several weeks I'd been disconnected from my long-term, long-distance girlfriend.  Everything was slowly, painfully falling apart.  I'd been crushing myself working on my Moot Court competition and the Law Revue.  Classes blew.  Then, to begin the worst week ever, my girlfriend dumped me, and 4 hours later my grandma went into hospice.  I developed a bad case of low blood sugar than knocked me on my ass for a few days.  I tweaked my back, leading to an awful migraine.  My heater stopped heating.  I melted down in front of my Moot Court partner and coach during a practice moot.  Then the gf who dumped me went into the hospital for mysterious stomach pain.

The day after I posted that shit-storm, the doctors called my grandma's family around.  She passed away the next afternoon, peacefully, surrounded by her family, and looking into the eyes of her husband of 54 years.  I was on a plane the next day flying to be with the family in Minnesota.  The visitation and funeral were nice, but very hard.  I gave part of the eulogy, and was a pallbearer, both of which were tough to do.

In the midst of all this, the former gf went into exploratory surgery.  After tons of incredibly invasive poking and prodding, the doctors were absolutely stumped on what was wrong, so they cut her open to look around inside.  The surgery happened on the night I flew to be with my family in Minnesota - no one called me to let me know how things had gone.  I spent the 4 hours that evening that I had to sleep worrying that something had gone wrong and they didn't want to tell me.

The surgery went fine.  They took out her appendix as a precautionary measure, and later found out it was ready to pop from appendicitis.  They got it out just in time.  Additionally, they found two hernias in her abdominal wall, right where the pain is.  Since the former gf was laid up at home recovering, I flew to Tucson to be with her over our spring breaks.

Amidst all of this, my Moot Court competition that I had been preparing for for months was the weekend of my Grandma's funeral.  Needless to say, family was miles ahead on the priority list, but it very much sucked to leave my team in the lurch.  I spent several hours the night before I flew prepping a document of all my arguments and strategies for our coach, who took over for me.  It was incredibly frustrating to have to miss what I'd worked so hard for.  Additionally, we were in full gear for Law Revue, as the week of Spring Break is immensely important.  I was missing out on load-in for the show, and also essentially unavailable to help deal with the many crises that inevitably pop up.

After all that crap, and worry, and gut-wrenching awfulness, Spring Break was fantastic.  The former gf and I patched things up in a major way, and the week of responsibility-free rest we got was perfect for her physical health and our mental health.  I had desperately needed a break from stress and responsibility, and I got it.  Taking care of her was easy, and having a companion to share my days and nights with again was indescribable.  I forget out here how nice life is when I'm with her, maybe as a coping mechanism for the incredible distance.  After a week, I was ready to move back.  Turns out I would have to drop out of law school entirely to move back - I still considered it.

Came back to school refreshed and ready.  Kicked ass at Law Revue, got elected to Nationals team for Moot Court, and the long-distance aspect of my relationship with the gf is better than ever.  We're gonna make it.  March came in like a lion, and out like a lamb that could kick your ass in a second, but is fun to have a beer with.
