Well not a whole lot is new since I last posted. Well actually much has happened just not a lot I wanted to write about at the time it was happening. So much has happened since the end of October.

The wildfires that struck the area destroyed many homes and lives. We were lucky we did not lose anything ourselves although we know some that did. We had friends that had to evacuate but they got to go home the next day. Although we watch a family try to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. Although they are showing great courage in the face of loosing so very much. The house and belongings are replaceable but they lost one daughter another is in critical condition with 3rd degree burns over 85% of her body. Her brother was burned too although not as badly. My heart goes out to them daily.

The fires reminded me just how fast things can change. And even the words I am putting here in my journal cannot even begin to explain what I want to say. The words seem woefully inadequate. I have learned that even the little blessings should be counted not just taken for granted. Things like seeing the sunset turn the sky a red and orange melody before going to the color of black velvet. The taste of a cafe mocha on a cold morning or even being able to cuddle up to Nomadd in the middle of the night and know that I am loved. Or seeing my daughter laugh after a corny joke.

Heh I survived cooking my second Thanksgiving dinner and this year we even had a guest. We had dinner at about 6 with the traditional dinner well sort of we had broccoli instead of greenbeans and well a twist on the pumpkin pie. It was a recipe that had pumpkin, cheesecake jello, and coolwhip. It was wonderful and I think I will make more for Yule although I may have to make an extra one and hide it from the rest of the house. The only downside was that my daughter caught the flu bug right before Thanksgiving and you know its bad when the human bottomless pit....skips the feast and then looks at you funny when you offer pie. She is slowly getting better but this bug seems to want to hang on a bit. So far though both Nomadd and I have managed to not get hit with it.

Oh yeah and my dad and his wife are coming for a visit. Although I guess they will not be here for my birthday. Not that I was counting on it....but it would be nice if they did make it. So maybe they will be here for Yule. The original plan was they were going to spend the winter in Arizona but I guess that plan has now fallen through so they will only be here to visit for a couple of days. It will be the first time I have seen them since I graduated from College in 2000. They are going to be in shock when my daughter can look my dad in the eye. That and towers over the step-grandmother.

And speaking of my kiddo I am really proud of her she is pulling A's in all her classes except for the advanced physics class which has a B. She loves algebra and says it is a snap. She hates the new history teacher but then I tell her the year is almost over so she can deal with it. She is going to Magic Mountain in April with the band for a competition and fun day. She is looking forward to that one although I am not looking forward to the bill that goes with that trip. She likes her other classes alright although she doesn't like the science class that much but then I think it is because that one she has to work at the grade instead of breeze though it. Oh yeah that and the being required to do the science fair. She choose to do hers on Earthquakes and the damage caused depending on the land it is on. Yes she did come up with that one herself I was proud that she came up with that one. She seems to like things that deal with geology and plate tetonics. So now she is setting up sand in a dishpan and the making cardboard houses to see what the damage happens on land that would liquefy in an earthquake then using water to show harder land. Now hopefully it will be good enough for the science fair people. Although I think she is already a winner for just coming up with the idea. I am so glad I was not required to be in the science fair growing up because I would have had NOT a clue on what to do. Except maybe get my self in trouble.
