I saw the ballet last night with my mother. It was an enjoyable evening. I don't think I've been to the ballet since the Nutcracker sophomore year of college. I hadn't seen
OBT since I was a child. I remember it, though: my mother made me wear a blue jumper. It was the least dress-like thing I could argue for. I argued about it a lot. They would have done well to have given up and bought me a little suit. At any rate, this was a good performance, especially the pas de deux. Which is what half of all ballets should be anyway, if you ask me. Marvelous. The Bolero was also well done. I'm always a bit nervous in advance, since that has the potential to be boring if it's not fiery, but they played and danced it well, and the choreographer and... staging designer? put their good ideas together to good effect.
I saw a play tonight, one of the Artists Rep. Theater ones. It was also good, although the ending was a bit too blatant. The sentiment was correct, but they shouldn't have had to spell it out. This was
Rabbit Hole, about a family grieving after the unexpected loss of a young boy. I appreciated that they brought in the young man who inadvertently killed the toddler, and it was nice to see a modern play. I'd like to follow up on the author's use of food, but I haven't got time to think about it just now.
