Weekend Update

Feeling better on most all accounts.

After she told me that there was no chance that I could take the exam and that she wouldn't write me a new one, I went to see my lab professor after class on Friday. We talked a bit, and she trusted me when I said I hadn't talked to other students about it. Because I hadn't. So she let me come up to the lab and take it after all. I hadn't studied lately, but an 85% is way better than a 0%. So hurrah.

I found out that my main plan for housing next year got canceled last night, the night before housing selection started. Luckily, I made tentative backup plans, since I was already not getting a good vibe about the original plan. If they hold out, I should be in a suite in Ziv next year. Not perfect, but definitely suitable. Ziv's the cheapest option (if not taking into account the mandatory meal plan) for juniors, and I'll be with a couple ruggers.

The track team finally got around to having our big Welcome Party (only seven months late). It involved four teams, dressing up nicely, a scavenger hunt, and lots of alcohol and fun. I missed it, since I didn't know about it till a few days before and I work Friday nights. I went to Smiley's birthday party after work, though, and that turned out to be fun. I have been promising to make it to Crescent Street for a while now, and I'm glad I went. I felt better than usual interacting with Jess, and I both learned how to play and then won beer pong.

I don't like that I have class during part of rugby practice. Showing up late halfway through makes me feel like a slacker, even though I'm trying to get there. I think it'll be better when it's warmer out, so I can spend less time warming up before jumping in to the drills. A few ruggers haven't even noticed me showing up and have started asking when I'm coming back to practice. Urf.

I just got the signature code for Human Osteology next fall. I'm excited, since the class is good enough to fill up every time it's offered and it's a bio/anthro mix. Also, I'm taking the Anthropology of AIDS course, I think. Again with the bio/anthro, just like my medical anthropology class this semester. Woo! Other than those, though, it's going to be a filler semester as far as classes go. I pretty much have to take physics and lab, and I'm getting biochemistry out of the way. (I think that once I get started and the science courses are more than just names and numbers on my transcript, I'll enjoy them. I liked physics enough in high school to take an extra year past AP, and I have a secret passion for bio- and organic chemistry that I like to keep hidden.)

On the financial front, I got my MA state tax refund of $143 and a paycheck this week that covers my extra morning hours over the past month in addition to the extra shifts I picked up a week ago. All that work got me $189, and I just got paid for the MRI study too, which brought in $175. This is fantastic, since I currently have $3 in my wallet. Thank god for Points, right?

Best of all, I finally got to hang out with Jess. We had a talk and then breakfast, and I feel thousands of times better. Not perfect, of course, but much happier. It was a great morning, especially compared to the last few weeks. I am vastly relieved to see that many of my fears were unfounded and that I was more confused than I even suspected. This is a much better finish. I love that girl.

Okay, and I just emailed my mother. All set.
