“So, wait, I’m sorry demons?” she asked for what felt like the millionth time. Bobby was being surprisingly patient with her, answering every single query she threw at him and, despite the fact that she interrupted every ten minutes or so to repeat the same question, he seemed fairly impressed with her ability to take it all in. Although, to be fair, she had seen a lot of weird growing up and she was also pretty sure that whatever was going on in her head fit under that heading as well. Not to mention what had happened to her since.
“No, seriously,” she repeated, “demons?” and this time Bobby just chuckled at her. She grinned back at him, almost feeling normal for the first time in…well, she didn’t know how long.
“Chloe?”
She shook her head, unaware that she’d been frowning and silent for long enough that it was actually Dean who was speaking to her. He was glancing into the mirror to look at her every few seconds.
“What date is it?” she asked, almost too scared to know the answer.
“Thursday,” Bobby said, frowning, but Dean shook his head.
“I don’t think that’s what she means. Is it Chloe? It’s October twentieth.”
“October? It’s…October?”
She let out a harsh breath, sinking back into the leather, her vision almost swimming in and out of focus. She shook her head and curled her fingers into the edge of the seat until it hurt. Pain she could understand, the rest of her life was just a mess.
“Chloe? Chloe? Shit.”
The world lurched suddenly and her eyes widened as she looked up. Bobby was cursing, but she was too preoccupied by the fact that Dean had swerved off the road and stopped before almost crawling into the back seat on top of her. She wasn’t afraid of him, not in any way, even if it was something she just couldn’t explain. She had trusted him almost instantly, much in the same way that he had trusted that she was telling the truth and, now at least, she understood that he had a lot of reason to think otherwise.
“Chloe,” he said, somehow managing to sound both harsh and gentle at the same time and she appreciated it all the more, because she had the feeling that Dean wasn’t the kind of guy who normally managed to do gentle. “Look, I know you’re scared, I can see that you’re scared and upset and…whatever, and I promise you that we will do everything we can to help you figure out what the hell happened to you, but I need you to let it go. Just for a little while. I told you this was dangerous and something tells me you really get that, but if you want to come with us you need to be all here. I can’t be worrying about you freaking out on us when we get there, because there is a hell of a lot out there that can kill you, even if you’re just out in the car, and I have to get to my brother.”
“Okay,” she said softly, nodding and letting out a breath. “Okay. And…thank you. I think I needed that.”
He smirked at her and, under different circumstances, she was pretty sure she might be in a lot of trouble with that look he was giving her. However, for the moment, she brushed it away and watched him climb back into the front seat.
She let him start driving before saying, “But you can forget it if you think I’m waiting in the car.”

“We do not have time to argue about this!” Dean yelled.
“You’re right!” Chloe yelled back. “Because your brother might be in trouble and you are wasting time!”
Dean spluttered for a moment. “Will you just get back in the damn car?”
“No!”
“Enough!” They both turned to look at Bobby, startled. “We don’t have time for this. You broke every damn law of physics pushing that car to get here and we are standing around doing nothing.”
“But-”
“Damn it, Dean, if she says she can handle it, let her handle it.”
For a moment, Chloe was sure he was going to argue, but after glancing at her briefly, Dean just nodded, turned away from them both and walked straight into the forest. She gave Bobby a grateful smile, reluctantly accepted the gun he thrust into her hands, and followed, letting him take up position behind her.
She twitched her fingers around the gun, feeling ill at ease with the thought of using it, even if it was apparently filled only with rock salt. She didn’t do well with projectile weapons. Not unless she counted shoes. She could aim shoes at people very well. Somehow, she suspected this was going to be a little different.
She glanced around the dark forest and held back a shudder. What the hell are you doing, Sullivan? she wondered, a slight quiver to her inner voice. She was good at keeping calm on the outside, but inside her own head was a different matter entirely. She realised, of course, that she was focussing on someone else’s issues so that she wouldn’t have to deal with her own, but she briefly wondered if maybe she’d got in a little over her head. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time.
They walked for what seemed like forever to her, likely because she was in the middle of a deep forest with two guys she barely knew and it had started raining again. She took a deep breath, flexed her fingers to keep the blood flowing and almost dropped her gun.
“What have you gotten yourself into,” she muttered softly to herself. She couldn’t be sure, but it seemed pretty likely that they were going to have a hard time getting out of this place, especially if Dean was right and there was a powerful demon that they didn’t even know how to kill pulling the strings.
She stumbled and likely would have smashed her face on the nearest rock if Bobby hadn’t had such quick reflexes. She was about to turn and thank him, when her focus drew to the rock she’d almost hit. It was covered in deep green moss and she blinked as it flashed in her mind like a glowing green rock.
“Chloe?”
She shook her head and turned to Bobby, who was still gripping her arm and was now looking at her worriedly. “I’m okay,” she said, trying out a smile. “Sorry.”
“Sam!”
Chloe jerked and rushed ahead, hearing Bobby behind her. “Are you out of your mind?” she cried in an angry whisper as she caught up with Dean. “You have no idea what-” she tailed off as they turned entered into a village, turning into the main street.
There was someone in front of them, he was tall, possibly about the same height as Clark, and when Dean repeated his brother’s name, Chloe smiled. At least that was one thing dealt with, even if she did suspect this wasn’t the end of it. She smiled as the brothers greeted each other, Dean moving deeper into the village, but her attention was drawn to the man getting to his feet behind Sam. Her eyes widened as she realised he was reaching to pick something up and that could not be good.
“Oh, God, behind y-”
“Sam, look out!”
Dean cut her off, but she couldn’t really care, because by that point they were all running. Sam had turned slightly at their warning, but they had been too late.
Chloe let out a scream as Sam’s eyes widened, the man thrusting what looked like a knife into the man’s back. She couldn’t move, just watched as Dean took off at a run. She barely noticed Bobby running off, barely heard Dean’s voice as he cradled his brother, murmuring his name over and over.
“No,” she said, shaking her head, because it didn’t matter that she didn’t know Sam, didn’t even matter that she liked Dean and Bobby and it was them that would hurt when this was all over. All that mattered to Chloe was that she could stop this.
She felt her hands beginning to tingle as she stepped forward. There was a power flowing through her stronger than anything she had ever experienced before. This was something she was meant to do, almost something she was felt she had been made for.
She blinked and looked at the brothers, getting closer to them and only vaguely hearing what they were saying. She was almost thrumming with energy as she reached them.
“-not even that bad, all right?”
“Dean,” she said, blinking as light began to emanate from her hands. “Dean.”
He looked at her briefly, as if he didn’t even care that she was there and she didn’t take it personally, because he didn’t know, couldn’t know, that she could help. She kneeled behind Sam, looking at Dean over his shoulder, and turned Sam so that he was leaning against his brother on his right side. Dean looked at her uncomprehendingly, but she didn’t give him the chance to speak.
“You need to remember,” she said, reaching out her hands, not even realising that tears were streaming down her face. “I always wake up.”
And then she just let go.
