Miss Rose, Episode 3

Aka the episode that got me sold on Miss Rose. Since it's a Roy Chiu drama, I knew from the start that I was going to stick with it to the end. The first two episodes were enjoyable, but just didn't have that pull that Office Girls had.

But then MR aired ep3.

This isn't a recap, since Ms. Koala has decided to start doing recaps (she's awesome at them, so check them out!), just a bunch of ramblings about the episode. I have work tomorrow, so I'm just scribbling these down while watching the BTS, so forgive the unstructuredness.

>What I loved about ep3:
- Luo Siyi's dream sequence. I think the following picture says it all:

- Chengkuan crashing Siyi's blind date. I still think the blind date in In Time With You was more heart-wrenching, but MR was definitely going more for the humor route here, and they pulled it off well. Roy thumping his chest = A+

- The kiss scene. It was really cute how Chengkuan's expression went from disgust to surprise to... I don't know how to describe it... soft? The way Roy acts with his eyes is just *o*. I also loved how Chengkuan accidentally put the car in reverse because of how absentminded he was afterward.

- Chengkuan and Shengjun's interactions. This has been a highlight since ep1, but they continued to shine in this ep.

- Reference to OG! Kang Youwei told Siyi to drop by Jing Shi Department Store to buy clothes for a business associate. They didn't show a shot of the outside of the department store, though, probably because they didn't go to Taimall to shoot.

- Another (sorta) reference to OG! Siyi's mom totally fangirled over Chengkuan and directly asked him if he wanted to be her son-in-law. When you consider that she's played by the same actress who played Shen Xingren's mom in OG, you'll see why this is hilarious.

- For some reason, I am finding the relationship between Chengkuan and Vivian extremely hilarious. They are just so dgaf around each other, except when they have to ham things up for the public and for Vivian's dad. It helps that Puff Kuo is a decent actress, so she's actually convincing in her scenes with Roy.

While we're on the topic of their relationship, I'm wondering how the drama would be different if they'd made it so that Chengkuan really did love Vivian. In Roy's cdrama Waking Love Up last year, his character was in the same situation: Xiang Tianqi was engaged (or soon to be engaged) to Mu Zhiqing, but then he met Liu Xiaobei and lost his memory and everything kinda went downhill after that. But the reason everyone rooted for the Qi/Bei relationship was because we all knew Tianqi didn't love Zhiqing to begin with anyway. So how much more complicated would everything be if in MR, Chengkuan and Vivian were really in love? I guess there'd be a lot more angst, which isn't really suited for a romcom (except maybe Fated to Love You, but that was pretty much romcom meets angst). Also, we'd definitely lose the hilarity of their current relationship, but it'd be interesting to see.

Anyhoo, there's a lot more I'm forgetting, but it's midnight and I need to sleep. Signing off~
