"Ms. Griggs, I have two new employees for you to process for payroll. Isn't that unusual?"
I took the files from Annie and noted which employees she was working on.
"Ah, Miss Graves and Miss Taya, Mr. Luthor's new interns." I stressed our employer's name. Annie paled. "I have their paperwork. I'll take care of this," I smiled at Annie and waited until she left my cubicle. Lex had stressed that Mercy Graves and Hope Taya's records were to be treated with the utmost discretion.
I hadn't seen Lex try to hide his dealings with an employee since Smallville, so I was curious what it was about our newest additions to his staff that required such delicate handling. I did a little "discreet" research on the two girls when I first heard of them. Lex hadn't just hired me for my accounting abilities, after all.
I can't say that I was shocked at what I found. Nor am I surprised at the lengths Lex is going to protect the girls. This isn't the first time Lex has redeemed a bit of the damage that Smallville or Lionel Luthor has committed. I'm sure it won't be the last.
