SV 5.15: Cyborg

I'll say one thing for this episode, not hearing Vic Stone yell "Boo Yah!" even once was a blessing. I loved the mature character. For once, the introduction of a DC character was done with class and style. They even avoided bad "Teen Titan" references.

Having the cybernetic elements be internal rather than external was appropriate for a live action series. It made the changes for Victor more poignant. He seems the same but he's not. He has a huge secret that he can keep or he can share. The parallels to Clark and Lana couldn't have been more blatant. Victor chose to share his secret. For now we know that Clark will continue to hide behind lies.

Lana? Why can't you die? Did your character get lost from Highlander? I suggested to drkcherry that the next FOTW bring a sword to take you out. Perhaps we need a Macleod to do the job?

Chloe? Get some self-respect. Transfer to Gotham University and get an intership at the Gotham Gazette. The Batman is more your style.

Lionel's role has us all puzzled. Did the fact that Lionel got released on a technicality just erase the fact of his conviction in everyone's mind? Martha, I refuse to believe that you ever had a brain. You were just another society girl at college looking for an MRS degree and you had the dumb luck to fall for Bo Kent. Your taste hasn't changed for the better.

Warning: Rant ahead--

I have a theory that is very small-minded and petty. But I really can't help feeling this way about how Clark's relationship with Lex has been portrayed all along. For three seasons Clark was Lex's biggest defender. Clark started trusting Lionel over Lex as soon as he saw "The Room." Does obsession trump murder in Smallville? Oh, wait a minute. Smallville is in Kansas. Obsession is code for Homosexuality isn't it? And Homosexuality is a Cardinal Sin. An Abomination that we must shun over all else. None of us believed that nonsense about the brunettes in "Bound" resembling Lillian now, did we? The old cliche about "ruining their friendship by revealing his true feelings" came true for Lex when Clark saw the room. Our dear Asshat Clark is the Homophobic Conservative America that is protecting all Male Asses from being Touched (unless it's on the Football field -- and Clark doesn't even play football anymore because that might cause him to have to reveal his secrets).

/end rant

One final note on Lionel. Isn't it ironic that Lionel is the one who is hosting Jor-El? "Joe" lost Laura to Lachlan Luthor's bullet. Lionel would later kill Lachlan. Jor-El owes Lionel one. Perhaps the two meglomaniacs who want to rule the earth are using each other.
