The Smallville Ledger Building was destroyed during the meteor shower. The paper's morgue would have been destroyed and all on site backups of the website. And if they weren't, the destruction could cover any "sabotage" by interested parties.
It is possible that none of the articles on Clark's exploits in Smallville, published by the Ledger, exist.
Which does make it less likely that anyone would be able to connect Clark to Superman due to his "hero" tendencies -- unless he starts making the papers again.
With all the destruction in Smallville, many of the people who would have known Clark, might leave town to start over somewhere else or perhaps died. There would be fewer people to tell what they remembered if someone came to Smallville asking questions.
