This is for Shannon and anyone else who had a hard time. I'm not totally sure on these but I tried. Put em into your own words cuz this is just to HELP not so you can copy directly.
Act III
1. Worry because Claudius suspects Hamlet may know what he has done and is only pretending to be crazy so no one will catch on to him.
2. Claudius is expressing that he feels completely crushed by the weight of the guilt he feels from knowing that he murdered his own brother, stole his wife, and also his throne.
3. That when it comes to committing suicide people can’t go through with it because they fear what may happen after death.
4. Ophelia chose to obey her father and lie to Hamlet so now Hamlet knows that he can’t trust her because she is more loyal to her father than to him.
5. He acts crazy to play along with what everyone thinks of him. People think he’s gone insane due to losing his father and Ophelia but they have no idea that it’s because he knows he has to kill Claudius.
6. Polonius thinks Hamlet really is crazy due to neglected love while Claudius fears Hamlet may be onto him.
7. Hamlet has one of the players recite a speech from a play about Pyrrhus killing Priam the King of Troy. It is all very symbolic if you know of the myth of the Trojan War. Pyrrhus is the son of Achilles who was killed and Pyrrus in the speech is seeking revenge.
8. He again goes along with the idea that he’s truly insane and says things with sexual references to Ophelia to humiliate her.
9. Hamlet tells Horatio to keep an eye on Claudius’ facial expression during the play so that they can confirm whether he is guilty or not.
10. From what I gathered he wanted to show his mother what a horrible person she was. The player Queen kept saying over and over that she would never take another husband and yet during the rest of the play she weds her former husband’s murderer.
11. Polonius was hiding away but he thought Hamlet was going to murder the Queen and he tried calling for help. As soon as he spoke Hamlet stabbed him through the arras and then Polonius falls dead.
12. He compares himself to a recorder and demands that Guildenstern play it. When he says he cannot then Hamlet tells him that they can’t play him like an instrument either.
13. He wants to be like Nero who killed his mother but he’ll use words so harsh they hit her heart like daggers hurting her emotionally but not physically.
14. He wishes to send Hamlet off to England because he is now starting to fear for his life.
15. He is speaking of how guilty he feels that he must carry the burden of being his father’s murderer and pretend to be this great King who is taking care of his brother’s family.
16. He won’t kill him when he’s confessing his sins; he wants to wait to catch him off guard just as Claudius did with King Hamlet.
17. Hamlet pretty much outright tells Gertrude that Claudius killed King Hamlet to take his place and marry her.
18. With Polonius gone he can’t help Claudius plot things against Hamlet and perhaps now Hamlet may feel that he can trust Ophelia.
