FINALLY BACK IN TOKYO.
I feel at home, lol. We arrived at the hotel last night (Graphy Nezu near Ueno Park) and it's been awesomeness ever since. We decided against walking through Ueno Park and took a taxi for the 3/4 mile to the hotel... Yep, Tokyo decadence. :P
First they told us that unfortunately we could not get the room we reserved and instead would have to take the upgraded deluxe version at no extra cost. *cough* We didn't want to make a fuss and accepted, of course. We're in the land of modesty, what else could we do? Protest and demand to be accommodated in the storeroom?
Since I'm here with mom and she doesn't know jack about Tokyo or Japan, I demanded to get my stuff done the first day, lest she discovers her love for Tokyo, Japan and shopping and won't let me of the leash for the rest of the time. Of course I looted the Chanter QR and Taka-An asap.
Didn't buy much, just went for the stuff I could grab quickly without searching for a long time. Best scores were the Hawaii program and the Tokyo Beautiful Beast program (finally!!!). I will return for a deep dive once I found a place where I can safely park mom for two hours, lol.
That won't be nearly as hard as I thought it might be. She spent a
small fortune at ITOYA (♥), just on the first floor, and the main store has 5 floors. xD
We had something like lemon pie and coffee for lunch in the chanter, we also tried lemon ice cream and managed to buy butter (not an easy feat!).
And on our way back through Hibiya Station we came across a Takarazuka Poster which had a tiny pic of Mami on it. (
Took a picture, of course. :P)
Since we overslept due to jet lag, we didn't have nearly as much time as we had planned for, so we will have to catch up with our schedule tomorrow. But it was wonderful to be back at the theater, in the QR and Taka-An and just in general enjoy the noble, polite convenience of Ginza. :P Seriously, I love being here. :D
On the plane they had a game called something like Berlitz Travel Guide, which helped you learn some basic vocabulary of the language spoken at the destination of your flight. So now she can count to 100 in Japanese on top of Kampai!, Konnichiwa, Konbanwa, Dozo, Sumimasen and Arigato.
Hilarious anecdote Re: Arigato:
Today, we were shopping at the combini around the corner and after we left the shop mom started to laugh out loud. I asked why she was laughing and she said she wanted to thank the clerk but couldn't come up with the right vocabulary. The memory hook I'd given her was 'alligator', but all she could come up with in the shop was 'crocodile'. xD xD xD
