★★ Craft : My baby lamp transforms intoToy Parade! ★★

Jan 30, 2011 20:15

I have a rocking horse lamp, which was given to me by my mother when I was just a baby.

It means a lot to me and it's something I will always cherish.

The old rocking horse lamp unfortunately had the sticker design peeling off

and years of time to become very yellow.

I kept it, regardless, because I remember how many nights when I was young

that the night light on it would keep me company,

or how the building block 'music box' song would cheer me up .

Even now, the song is comforting, reminding me of simple days.

A few months ago, I decided I would turn this cherished item

into something that would suit me now,  rather than throw it away.

(It was in disrepair to justify keeping any longer.)

I started to paint the lamp before I painted my bedroom,

but found time to finish it today!

(So you'll notice the walls are now colourful, hehe.)

★★ THE DESIGN ★★

My favourite sweet lolita print is "Toy Parade" by my favourite brand Angelic Pretty.

The rocking horse design of the lamp + building blocks fit the theme used in Toy Parade perfectly.

★★  THE TRANSFORMATION AND PROCESS ★★
Let's see the transformation! (︶ω︶)

Here is how we started. We are yellow and sad T_T

It's very yellow and stained. This won't do. Time to remove the label and remove the dirt.

Lot of hard work, krud kutter,  sand paper and hot water! The sticker is finally off and the surface is ready to be painted.

Lots of coat of white acrylic paint as the base.

Now for the base of the rocking horse + paint the details on (here is where I left it)

Acrylic paint + gloss + little details from today! It looks amazing! The little stars are handmade

(。♥‿♥。) Finally it's done!
Wow!

★★  FOR THE DETAILS ★★

For the shade (and base) I added pink rick rack, as seen at the bottom of the Toy Parade print, numbers as seen

on the building blocks, and pastel star 'sprinkles' I didn't want to overdo the shade,

taking away from the main piece of the rocking horse + blocks.

Originally, I had planned on painting the 'all over print' with polka dots + candies + stars)

I also use little bow cabs + plastic chain + handmade stars + plastic heart beads for the details on the rocking horse.

It's really something, huh? I think it's very cute and will still be my favourite lamp.

I think I'll listen to the song right now♫  It's been a tough day (╯3╰)
