Damn, how much did you sell your baby for? I'm crying too. Although I do know this one guy that's using one of the new Alienware laptops and it doesn't seem to be running into any power troubles.
I would buy film in Japan if I were you, but from what I understand you only run into problems when it's in your checked luggage, if you carry it on the little x-ray thing isn't supposed to harm your film. I would ask your photography friends though.
As for American nick-nacks, I would say take at least some form of the flag, photo album, and candy (I think gum is a good one). I would grab some Albuquerque/New Mexico stuff, like maybe one of those nature books of New Mexico, or anywhere you live, so I guess Oregon is fair game too. Just mostly take small stuff, if you get something big your host family might feel obligated to put it somewhere or something. You could take salsa or something but I doubt they would eat it.
I just asked this ALT and she said that she gave wine to all of the big important and helpful people, if you wanted to do that. But she's Canadian, I donno if that's legit as an American.
Um, what else, basically what ever you bring is going to get the same response, unless you manage to find something that they actually have an interest in, in which case that would be good (of course).
I'm totally blanking on stuff to bring. I came with next to nothing, which forced me to buy local stuff after a bit. If I think of anything I'll let you know though~ When are you getting here? I'm going to try to plan a trip into Tokyo sometime in December if I can, but I have no idea if I can pull it off or not so we'll see how that goes.
hehe yeah, all i can get as a response from anybody is to bring something not too expensive, and something that shows me or where i am from off... i got a beaver stuffed animal from oregon so far, but just made it back to new mexico this weekend :) am trying to put together a little picture book or something, but apparently i have not been in many photos since I was a child.. oh well haha.
thanks for the suggestions though, i guess I can wait on film until I get there. Whatever I would need it for I can definitely use my digital camera for anyways. Just want to take the big guy for a few artsy shots.
As for selling the fatty, he said goodbye tonight for 1800. Its a shame, but because I didn't get a job this summer I had to do it. Tokyo is expensive, ne? I'll be here in NM for about 2 weeks, cali for 1, then off to tokyo on sept 15th. That would definitely be awesome if we could meet up in Japan, you could show me around town with your leet japanese skills haha. We should try to work something out, will definitely do my best to work things out and maybe we could meet halfway or something like that. 楽しみにしてるよ ^___^
