It is important to live in a society where social ills (corruption) are casually identified. I dread to think that I would live in a society so ordered that I am blind to the behaviors that would cause it to collapse. Should someone live in such a world where all corruption is hidden, he would assuredly succumb to it once encountered.
The benefit of encountering corruption at a young age is so that the moral philosophy embedded in the local culture and tradition will attempt to equip them with a means to identify and grapple with it. There is some importance to looking at the corrupt behavior of others and saying to oneself "I'm fortunate that I was taught not to behave like that."
