The Indians tried their best Friday night, but their best was not good enough to beat Johnson Central, and we ended our season with a district runner-up trophy. I am so proud of the kids and the way they played their hearts out this season. The seniors helped take the program from shambles to a prideful set of warriors in just three short seasons. They ended the year with an 8-4 record. The last time they won eight games...noone can even remember it. The last time they won a playoff game was in 1996. So this year was a record year, and our boys have nothing to be ashamed of.
Looking back, it was a great season for myself as well. No significant injuries, at least not the ones you dread. My quarterback-turned-runningback when he broke his thumb three weeks ago also injured his shoulder in Friday's game, but other than that and a couple other broken bones suffered by other players, it was a fairly injury-free season. Something I am grateful for, to say the least.
I will miss seeing the coaches every day, and interacting with the players. They are a wonderful group of kids who were nothing but respectful and polite from July til the end. Some of them will go on to play basketball, so I'll see them still, but for the others and for the seniors, banquet night in a couple of weeks will be the end. It's also been nice to feel like a part of the group; being the only female and the "trainer" to boot, it's good to feel wanted in some capacity other than the "water girl."
So now it's on to basketball and wrestling...girls scrimmage tonight, wrestling match tomorrow night, alumni game on Saturday...life goes on!
