GROSS LOVE PART TWO vergoldung February 8 2013, 22:03:09 UTC
Bonnie had said, before she left, clinging to Jeremy, reaching up to clasp his neck with her hand, “This isn’t your war, Jer. It’s mine. I have to fight it alone.” And so he had stayed.
CRYING. Because YES. She needs to fight her war alone. It's her fight and she will fight for her right to die (or die for her right to fight? sometimes these things blurr together) and RIGHTFULLY SO. But she doesn't understand. She doesn't understand that THIS IS HIS WAR TOO. He needs to fight so bad. Maybe not next to her. But he needs to be given the space to take action again. And then he does, but it's in such a soft, non-agressive way... Which really is so true to his deflective nature. Gah. WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD TO ME? /FEELINGS

But life in the Gilbert home with Jeremy, shunted aside in the midst of a war, was hot chocolate in the morning and sitcoms in the evening and gardening in the afternoons and long days at work and laundry on the weekends. Life in the Gilbert home with Jeremy was a bit like playing house; only they weren’t playing anymore and they hadn’t been children in a very long time and no one had to explain the rules.
MY. EMOTIONS.
Shit but what is happening. Like, I'm so in love with this idea of domestic!Jeremy because it's so unlike him (and totally like him) if that makes sense? He is so nurturing and caring and giving but also so intrinsically in need of all things unconventional that I just cannot believe that he'd want to play house if you asked him point blank. Except that he loves to make people who feel out of place comfortable and as much as he struggles with the outside world and its ridiculously contrived expectations, he also had such a balanced home growing up that it must have felt like a bubble (a sometimes choking, restricting bubble, but a haven nontheless) and now he gets to recreate that. And even though he doesn't really want to want that? He has to have missed this sense of security and safety. He is just a kid. Oh Kelsey. MY EMOTIONS OKAY.

They were alone - it was only the two of them - and they were both riddled with the scars of loss and time.
This is it. When you strip it bare. This is it.

AND GOD WHAT EVEN IS THAT SCENE. THE TEDDYBEAR??? THE (OBVIOUSLY WHITE) NIGHTGOWN??? HER LOOKING SO MUCH LIKE A BROKEN DOLL IT HURTS??? HIM LOOKING LIKE A B-MOVIE HERO??? THE JOKE ABOUT HIM DRAWING PORTRAITS OF HIS DEAD GIRLFRIENDS???? WHAT EVEN??? WHY ARE YOU PERFECT??????????????

Later she would ask why he did that, the first night.“Because you were crying in your sleep.”
UNNNG BUT OF COURSE SHE WAS AND OF COURSE HE WOULD!!!!! KELSEY KELSEY KELSEEYYYY

The next night when she wandered in, the Shins were coming through his speakers and he indeed appeared to have completely lost his shirt.
I LAUGHED SO HARD THIS KID IS HILARIOUS OMFG (AND SO ARE YOU AS A MATTER OF FACT) I UNDERSTAND THIS KIND OF HUMOR BLESS

She was standing in the kitchen reading a letter from Elena and trying very, very hard not to cry. On the stove, something was boiling over, and something in the oven was burning. But the blood behind her eyes was threatening to roll down her cheeks and she didn’t notice anything else. Right when the fire alarm started to sound, Jeremy walked through the door. He took one look at her and another at the smoke emanating from the stove behind her and said with a smile, “I got you your favorite.”
Oh my GOD darling you are so gross!!! THIS SCENE!! JUST HOW DARE YOU GO TO THIS LEVEL OF PAINFUL ADORABLENESS?? Jeremy is a saint, basically. THE WORLD SHOULD KNOW. HE WILL GET YOU YOUR FAVORITE AND LAUGH AT THE BURNED DINNER BECAUSE WHO CARES.

SOBBING OKAY? I have heaps of Bonnie ~feelings that I try to pretend aren't there (because it gets really overwhelming) and then she crops up and takes over the scene without even trying. /ugh

Yes. Because this is where I felt like Jeremy got a little lost in Caroline's need. But the thing is - they were TOLD to "be home" by Elena - they were told to "stay safe" by Bonnie - and the way he knows how to do that is through domesticity. He grew up in a house of strong women - he knows how to make them comfortable. He fits around Caroline like a glove.

Seriously though, I want to write this scenario from his perspective now, so that I can explore the EFFORT he would have to put into being so "norm" with/for her (which "her" doesn't really matter, does it?)

AND GOD WHAT EVEN IS THAT SCENE.
Firstly, OF COURSE SHE HAS A TEDDY BEAR WHO DO YOU THINK SHE I AM?
Secondly, he IS a hero from an indie-movie, though. HE FELL IN LOVE IN A LIBRARY FOR GODS' SAKE!
Thirdly, dead girlfriends would HAVE to be a joke - would have to be raw - would have to be present. It isn't going away.

I LAUGHED SO HARD THIS KID IS HILARIOUS OMFG (AND SO ARE YOU AS A MATTER OF FACT) I UNDERSTAND THIS KIND OF HUMOR BLESS
*g* my favorite moment, ngl. Jeremy is actually pretty hilarious - but he just doesn't get a chance to show it. And Caroline would LOVE his sense of humor. She would, SHE WOULD. (bless)

Oh my GOD darling you are so gross!!! THIS SCENE!!
I'M SORRY OKAY!? IT JUST HAD TO HAPPEN.

HE WILL GET YOU YOUR FAVORITE AND LAUGH AT THE BURNED DINNER BECAUSE WHO CARES.
Because he cares so much more about her smiling up at him than the dinner. He cares about the dinner(s) because it makes her happy to be domestic for him. He cares about the Founding Family events for the sake of her. THIS is Jeremy. He commits 110% ((except with Bonnie - I'm not really sure what's going on with him and Bonnie, tbqh)) and laughs at the little things and shrugs and smiles and it's all sweet and nice and ugh. EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE HIM.

AND I NEED TO MAKE THIS SO CLEAR: HE'S NOT LAUGHING AT HER - HE'S LAUGHING AT THE DINNER ON THE STOVE BEING BURNED AND HOW SHE CARED SO MUCH AND HOW THEIR LIVES ARE COMPLETELY FUCKED UP AND IT'S SO RIDICULOUS AND SHE'S TRYING SO HARD TO BE ~NORMAL AND HOW COULD HE NOT LAUGH WHEN IT IS CONSTANTLY CRUMBLING DOWN AROUND THEM AND HE KEEPS PICKING UP THE PIECES, AND BRINGING HER ICE CREAM, AND WATCHING HEPBURN MOVIES, AND TRYING TO KEEP HER SAFE SO THAT SHE FEELS BETTER SO THAT HE CAN FEEL LIKE HE'S DOING SOMETHING WORTHWHILE ... AND THIS IS HIS WAR SO HE THROWS HIMSELF INTO IT ...

WHAT EVEN? I AM TEARING UP RIGHT NOW. THESE TWO.

aSMLDMLFHMLSHMLHMLWHSD YES YES YES YES YES DYING AT YOUR WORDS OF TRUTH AND ALSO YES PLEASE DO IT I WILL COMBUST

Honestly, the fact that they have a compatible humor has to be one of my favorite thing about that ship!!! LAUGHING IS IMPORTANT OKAY.

I do not even want to spend time understanding people who don't love Jeremy Gilbert. How can you not.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD??? WHAT ARE OUR BRAINS EVEN DOING RIGHT NOW...?? Like there wasn't even explicit laughing in the scene to begin with, just smiling but now it's so obvious that there was and that it was the kindest laugh in the world and that this actually makes them even more perfectly gross and just amdlajsmlkdmn we are seriously not okay right now. BUT YES OMFG YES. This is the war he is fighting! #FEEELINGS
