The "lead", Tori, happens into the school by chance and is a total dork. And completely, utterly gay I'm pretty sure. Her sister, Trina, has no talent and is ... the most amazingly selfish creature that ever existed. I ship her and Robbie like burning (a boy who honestly believes his ventriloquist dummy that he carries with him every where is a LEGITIMATELY separate entity from himself). There's also Andre - a playa-playa musician with a (possibly schizophrenic) paranoid grandmother he must care for. Cat - the "humor" of the show (think Phoebe from Friends), who is infantilized by the series while she simultaneously throws herself at boys left and right. The couple (at 16 had been together for 2yrs): Beck and Jade. They are gorgeous. Pretty much. He is so pretty girls follow him and stroke his hair in public. And he's stupid talented, in that pretentious way that serious!actors often are. She's... dark and twisty and epically talented. They're both snarky and a little bit evil, it's pretty phenomenal to watch.
And I love it because of this this wonderful (spoilery) post about Beck/Jade by the wonderful smells_corrupt ... for whom I blame for all of my epic FEELZ for this show. (Spoilery but honestly, doesn't Spoil the effect of the series - I read the whole damn thing and had gif-feelz for the characters before I saw more than ten minutes of the series and her infectious squee only made me love it more)
Basically - it's ridiculous. A hyper-perfect reality for kids to enjoy, but it's wearing away at the seams and you can angst!ship anyone in the cast with anyone because if you are a careful reader of television - all is not right in this world. (Also they all have stupid chemistry with each other) These kids are ridiculously screwed up humans, in a world that shits rainbows. Everything is happy, shiny, sparkly - its what kids want Reality to be
And you should love it.
(I may be willing to exchange you a trial Skins run if you give this a chance - I'm pretty much always willing to fall in love with the things my flist loves and you may convince me to give a try yet, anyway. But as an added incentive *waggles eyebrows*)
