In which I wax poetics because Rachel Berry is possibly one of my very favorite female characters on television today. (Glee poetics behind cut because I am unsure where my highly-vampire-oriented Flist even stands on the Gleek front)(
I just love this girl )
I totally understand responding to her tears, she does the same to me. no matter how many times everyone tries to knock her down, that girl just keeps going! There seems to be this sense in the series that the "one-liners" delivered by Santana/Quinn/side-characters don't mean anything - that the humor is part of the show... only the humor is nasty and mean, it never stops being nasty and mean.
And just for the record: it's Rachel's FAITH in Quinn that moves her forward, NOT Finn's JUDGEMENT. And for me: that pretty much defines the series. No matter how much people drag her down, or how "selfish" people say she is - Rachel has an incredible, unshakeable FAITH in the goodness of humanity. And that's why her tears break me - because when she cries, you know that something really, really wrong has happened in the world. That Rachel's faith is being shaken. And that.... hurts.
