Bread Pudding

6 slices bread, buttered (preferably egg bread)
6 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
3 cups milk, hot
2 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven at 350°F. This is baked in a hot water bath, so choose your baking dish accordingly.

Butter a baking dish (roughly 2 litre size), and arrange buttered bread slices in a scalloped overlapping pattern, butter side up.

Beat eggs and sugar together. Beat in hot milk and vanilla. Pour over bread. Place in larger pan and pour boiling water halfway up the height of the baking dish. Bake for one hour or until inserted knife comes up clean. Yummy served warm or cool.

I was actually short an egg. I might have gone next door to borrow one from my grandma, but my mom suggested I just reduce the other custard ingredients and I thought that a good idea rather than going outside when the region is covered in a layer of ice and freezing rain is still falling. It would have been rather comical if I had lost my footing and broke the egg on the way back.

It got slightly over-browned because Somebody(!) turned off my timer and neglected to tell me.
