House-Autopsy

Sep 20, 2005 22:37

Up until now, my favourite House episode was 'Detox', but after tonight, I have to say this is now the best episode of House thus far.

I'll edit this post with my thoughts and opinions after The Daily Show. Stay Tuned.

Edit---

Okay, I'm sure you all have your own opinions, and have read many analysis' on this already, but here are my thoughts on

First off, let me start with the most controversial part of tonight's episode, The kiss. I have to say, at first I was a little creeped out by the whole thing. I mean, a 30 yr old man kissing a 9 year old girl? It just seems sick and wrong. But there was definitely more to it than that. Upon reflection, I can kind of applaud Chase for doing it. I mean, not many people would compromise their morals like that. Most would just refuse, feel bad about it for a while and then go on with their lives. But Chase put aside society's rules and helped a dying young girl experience something that most of us take for granted. I admit that I was yelling at the screen "Don't do it Chase!" right before it happened, but looking back I realize that it's not as creepy as I initially thought. It wasn't done maliciously, he wasn't 'preying' on her, and there wasn't anything sexual about it, like there is in child molestation/pedophilia cases. It was just a young doctor doing something sweet to help his patient with a dying wish.
But would I do the same thing in this situation? Hard to say. At the time it happened, House and his team were still pretty confident that they would find out her problem and allow her to live for another year, so I don't really feel that Chase believed this was her "last request", so to speak. I think, if it were me forced to make this decision, I would have told her that if it came down to the point where it didn't seem like she was going to survive, then I'd kiss her. But I would make sure that I exhausted all efforts before accepting the final verdict. I think Chase's actions, while sweet and heartbreaking, were a little premature.
I would have loved to have been there when Jesse Spencer first read that script though. His reaction would have been priceless! "Wait..and then Chase does what?!" And how must he feel, as an actor, having to do something like that? It's bad enough having to kiss another actress, but one that's a child? That takes some definite commitment to the role.

Speaking of hard roles, We all know how hard it is for Hugh to affect an American accent for this role, but one that's suffering from allergies? That's gotta be horrible for him! The poor man has enough problems trying to deal with one accent, but then you throw in something even harder? Why the hell did he not get an Emmy again? The man is seriously amazing! I'd like to see James Spader play a Brit with a cold while walking with a cane...Hell, I'd like to see James Spader play anything believably!

This episode has now replaced 'Detox' as my favourite House episode. It made me go through every emotion. Sadness, anger, heartbreak, laughter(for a sad episode, it had it's share of great lines), lust(Hugh+Motorbike=HappyKristi), and confliction.
Everyone is saying how House seemed to be meaner in this ep than normal, but I think it was exactly the opposite. The girl got to him. I think he saw a little of himself in her, and it scared him. And as gruff and misanthropic as he comes off, he still cares about his patients. The scene with him in her room telling her that she had the choice whether she could go through the procedure and possibly live a little longer, or to end all the pain and suffering now was just so heart breaking. I think if House were capable of tears, he would have cried. You could just see the emotion in those bright blue eyes of his. He wasn't given a choice and now has to live with pain. He was making sure that this little girl didn't have to go through the same thing. I don't think all his sarcastic comments on how brave she was being were meant maliciously, I think House was honestly trying to make sure that the little girl was informed and mature enough to handle what was to come.

The House/Wilson dynamic in this one was great as well. Wilson finally grew a backbone and called House on his shit. "Go to hell." It broke my heart, but also made me cheer. Wilson looks up to House because House does everything that Wilson wishes he had the guts to do. He idolizes him because House can get away with pretty much anything, partly because he lets him. But then House finally crosses the line and Wilson realizes that House is not perfect, and that sometimes he really is an ass. Coming from anyone else, House wouldn't have cared. But being told to go to hell from your closest friend? You could tell that hit a nerve. I'm glad to see there's more to this friendship than shallow behaviour.

I also know that I'm not the only person who saw some foreshadowing in tonight's episode. I think House is in for a fall soon. He's becoming weak. Not being able to open the bottle, the drinking, the drugs....I just think something is coming and I'm not going to like it.

Now a few random thoughts:

- House taking the ginger concoction from Cameron.."it's good!" So cute. The House/Cam shipper inside me squealed at that. Finally Cameron has stopped whining. I love her, but even I have to admit that last week she annoyed the hell out of me.
- One other great thing about this episode? NO STACY! Keep it up, writers!
-"Are you high?" "If it's Tuesday I'm totally wasted!" "It's Wednesday." (paraphrasing) Heeee. Best line of the episode.
- The hug at the end. If all those people hadn't been there, you just know House would have hugged her back. You could tell the little girl was melting his icy heart a little...and besides, we all know House has a soft spot for hugs, as seen in 'Sport's Medicine'. But House has a reputation to uphold, so a sarcastic remark with a half smile will have to suffice.
- The music from this show continues to impress. I seriously would love a key to the music department at FOX studios.
- Foreman seeing the clot and House trusting it. Such a great moment. Finally a time when House has to rely on his team for something important and he puts his complete trust in Foreman. Great, great moment. "Good enough for me."
- Cameron being the one to hear the sound of heart murmur or whatever the hell it was..See, she really is a good doctor and not just a pretty face!
- The clinic patient? Highly gross and completely unecessary. House speaking Yiddish? Completely funny. Yet another amazing job by Hugh Laurie. What's next, is he gonna have to be Southern? Or Spanish?
- When did House get a balcony? And when did his office become so close to Wilson's? And why are there rocks on his balcony, which I'm assuming is a few floors up? So many questions..
- Cameron is next in line for the markers! See? She's his favourite! Hee. So cute. But Chase isn't ready...Heheh. But why did Chase get to use the red mug? He put his little girl kissing lips on House's mug! For shame!
-Okay, Foreman's a neurologist, and Cameron's an immunologist, but what's Chase's specialty again? I've forgotten..I'm trying to think of why he was in the operating room. I understand why Foreman was there, and why House was there, and why Cameron wasn't, but I can't remember why Chase would be there.
- Finally, which Opera was that that House was listening to? I know it, and I like it, but I don't think I ever knew the name for it. Someone please tell me.

Someone hurry up and get a transcript and caps of this episode, stat! Please?

ps- Gilmore Girls? Kinda boring. And weird..it was just.."off".
