Overall, I wasn't really impressed. It wasn't anything like it was 5 or 6 years ago.
Collen picked me up Friday afternoon, and it took about an hour to get there, and we waited in line for about 3 hours for registration. This Vash/Inuyasha hybrid was standing behind us with an electric guitar, annoying the fuck out of me. When all was paid for, we went up to our room and chilled for a bit, ordered about $85 in pizza and busted out some Rolling Rocks. I checked out the gaming room and was disappointed by the substantial amount of Naruto games. I went back up to the ballrooms with Jeff, Ash, and Brett to see this amateur comedy panel. Brett entered, and ended up winning the whole deal (the prize being a box of Cinnabons). I was pretty impressed. After that, the whole group met at Midnight Madness, which has gotten old for me. I've seen most of the videos at least 3 or 4 times, so it was pretty boring. I went back to the room around 1:30, and went to bed.
I woke up at 7:30 Saturday morning, chilled in the room until around 10, showered, and went to get in line for Spiral Spiders. After waiting in line for a bit, I got impatient and went back to the room and took a nap. I woke up again around 2, and I went to the photoshoot with Manny, Ben, and Jon. It was too crowded, so we just decided to eat at the restaurant that was right nearby. We checked out some video programming for a bit, then we got in line for the masquerade, which had its ups and downs. Some guy proposed to his girlfriend during one of the skits, so that was pretty cool. I went around and took some pictures afterwards, went back to the room, got drunk with some of the guys, and ordered some pizza. This is where things got a little interesting. I went down to the hotel lobby to pick up the pizzas, and on my way back up to the room, I notice that there is blood all over the ground by the second floor elevators. I was just standing there, wondering what could have happened, when some guy grabs my arm and goes "Okay, I saw what you did a little while ago," and I was like "WTF?" The guy was from IRT and was unusually aggressive. Apparently he saw me assault someone by the elevators, which of course is not true at all, since I had just come in from outside. I had someone from the hotel come up and question me, and some other people from IRT were debating, and they finally decided that they were mistaken. They let me go back to my room without apologizing at all to me. What assholes. I got back to the room, and Joe Wasiqi was there, who was on his 4 hour break as IRT. He told me that their staff had dwindled down to about 30 people, and that they were really on-edge. We ate the pizza, I drank some more, and we decided to go see this improv panel before the Soap Bubble or whatever the rave was called. Of course everything is funny when you're tipsy, but I can honestly say that these actors were genuinely funny (well, most of them). We went to the rave around 1:30, and we danced until around 3:45 in the morning. We made a circle with all of our friends, and the circle kept getting penetrated by these rabid weirdos, all foamy at the mouth. Pretty scary. Some creepy guy asked innocent little Nicole for a dance, and of course Nicole is too nice to reject anyone, so Manny chased him off with his exotic dance moves. We went outside afterwards to cool off, and Manny was actually "steaming" It was awesome. We went back to our floor, where Jon and I talked outside the rooms for a bit, until some security guard told us that we had to go back inside our rooms.
I woke up Sunday at 11, showered, and then went home. It's the first time that I've gone and not visited the dealer's room. Really though, what is there that I would buy at the dealer's room that I couldn't download illegally? I really doubt that I'll go next year. I think I'm just getting too old and the novelty of it all is wearing-off. Also, people get creepier and creepier every year.
Some quotes from the con:
"Welcome to 30 minutes ago" - Brett, to Jeff about whether or not we needed tickets for the masquerade.
"Don't mess with me, nerd!" - Me to asshole con-staffer while waiting in line for badge.
"I was lipping that one" - Jon in response to God-knows-what.
"Yeah, I saw this guy and girl holding hands and kissing" - Billy flipping-out and overexagerating.
"WHY WON'T POKEMON DIE!!?" - Fucking weirdo at the improv.
"Heh heh heh heh" - Brad, constantly.
