December 1 is World AIDS Day

Nov 30, 2008 08:25

Meet Kombo, age 12.

Today, like every day, an estimated 6,000 children like Kombo will lose a parent to AIDS. Each of these children has a name - and a story.

Kombo's dad died first. Then he watched as the disease claimed his mom. Globally, more than 15 million kids like Kombo have lost parents to AIDS, making their own survival uncertain. In many AIDS-ravaged countries, children’s lives are further threatened by diseases like malaria, the fourth leading cause of child deaths worldwide.

Watch video to learn about the history of the AIDS pandemic and how World Vision is making a difference.

This World AIDS Day, you can do something for hurting kids like Kombo. You can help World Vision offer vital care like food, shelter, health care, school assistance, job training, counseling, HIV-prevention education based on biblical principles, Caregiver Kits, and more.

We've been on the front lines of the AIDS crisis since 1990. Now, we’re fighting AIDS in more than 60 countries. Join us today - and make a difference for children like Kombo.

Sincerely,

Rich Stearns
President, World Vision U.S.
Also, if you go to Starbucks on December 1st, a portion of thier sales go to fight AIDS. I don't usually like to buy from Starbucks because i don't like some of the other things they support, but going in on World AIDS Day tells them, "Hey, i'll buy from you more when you support good stuff."
