My life last week in brief.
We finally moved the father-in-law into a lovely retirement home in Montreal. This entailed booking time off to do it in April and him cancelling it two weeks prior to that date. Much frustration and gnashing of teeth by us ensued.
We had time booked in May for a much needed vacation which became instead the great moving saga. We drove four hours after work on Thursday, stopped for the night and on Friday we completed the remaining five hours of the drive.
We started packing the large one bedroom condo on Friday afternoon. The translation being that B distracted and soothed his dad while I packed and steam cleaned the area carpets. We were repeatedly told that it was too much to do, we should cancel the move, he would have nowhere to sleep on the night of the move and that we would leave him alone with mounds of unpacked boxes.
This delightful moaning continued afresh on Saturday. I lost all of my patience and I asked B to keep his father away from me while I made boxes and continued the packing process. Sunday was the day of the move with the movers arriving at 11am. It actually went well except for the overwhelming anxiety expressed by my father-in-law. I did not know how to deal with him at all.
We had the place fully setup by 6pm, with the bed made and all boxes unpacked. Monday we visited briefly the still bitterly unhappy and distressed dad and then drove the 9 hours home. There was much rejoicing in the car.
For a treat after the weekend, B and I went to a late show. On Tuesday evening after work we drove to London to meet up with friends. On Wednesday night we met up for dinner and pool with another group of people. On Thursday I got to work the late shift. On Friday we went for a homemade meal at another couple's place and left early as we were tired.
B and I have dinner reservations for Saturday after work to celebrate our anniversary, with Sunday finally being a day of rest. I fully plan to move as little as possible that day.
Can life slow down a little now?
