*nods in agreement* Assault charges would have been good. Would have sent a nice, clear message to him... assuming his head wasn't too far up his ass, and by the sound of it that may be the case.
I mean, how freaking up on your high-horse do you have to be to get 'insulted' by a playful hit from your sister and your niece?
('Course, if your family is anything like my family, 'outside involvement' from the authorities is highly frowned upon.)
I kind of wish you actually told him honestly that it wasn't okay. It would have been a perfect segue to giving him a piece of your mind (assuming he didn't go into a tirade over you not accepting his pseudo-apology).
And if it didn't go through his thick skull, then you could nail him with assault charges to punctuate your point quite nicely.
But this all being third-person hindsight, well... what's done is done...
Just take off the kid-gloves next time. Family or not, there's no excuse for him to act like that towards you or your mom.
Speaking of which, what was your mom's take on that entire situation? I certainly hope she gave her brother a piece of her mind after you walked out of that room.
The only reason I didn't give him a piece of my mind was that my family is so bloody dysfunctional anyway. It was the first time I'd seen my other aunt in a year an a half because everyone's always fighting and she hates that. I miss seeing Aunt Bev around and we're hoping that if we can manage to play nice she'll start showing up to family occasions.
But if my uncle refuses to get his head out of his ass, I'd be glad to show him how I really hit. I may be only 5'7" but I spend my days moving 50 lb. + bags of horse feed. I can beat the shit out of his scrawny little lawyer ass.
Although I do think assault charges would be a little excessive.
I think assault charges would be good. You say it's not big deal, but you're also saying that your family is dysfunctional anyway, and how's that gonna change if no one takes it from 'no big deal' to a personal offense?..
Just my thought on the issue. Family is family for a reason.

In my family this is seriously not a big deal...
