Well, since it's April 15th, I figure I'd better get this up:

I'm going on vacation (loose term, as I don't work) for two weeks. I don't know how much of a chance I'll get to check your journals, but I'll try my best to stay in touch.

So, here's the big adventure

What Vir said. And, if you can, try and get a chance to see the Painted Desert landmarks. Seriously awesome natural junk.

Watch your gas(obviously), and when you get to California, have some Pier 39 seafood for me. ::grin:: Isobune's a hot spot for sushi but it IS sushi. And FRESH sushi...so it's a bit of a penny.

I dunno if it's still there but there's thi slittle dessert place that Mum and I used to semi-frequent. For treats and such. Holy CHEESE, they make damn fine sundaes. And they made 'em huge. Like, "If you can eat this whole thing, we'll give it to ya for free" huge on one of their biggest sundae monsters.

Oh, and if ever you hear of things like "earthquake drills", "quake emergency care packs"? Those are decent things to know. That area's right along a fault line or two but there haven't been any major shakes in som eyears, so methinks you'll be fine. But rumbling under the ground? Yeah, expect a tiny bit of that but it's nothing to seriously sneeze at.

Hm. Clothes shopping? Ross is good. Um....'fraid I can't say much on that kind of shopping. I was a little kid when I lived there and gawds, I was such a brat a sitter had to be hired.
::covers ears as something about putting a clothing outlet on lockdown for about an hour is said::

Take BART when possible and if you get a chance, cross the Golden Gate. It's got walking-sidewalk areas that are barred off from traffic so walking across the bridge is cool. And maaaaaaaaan what a view.

Wow, this is some great stuff that I didn't really get much of a chance to think about. This, and the 11' 6" clearance that the U-Haul's supposed to have. I'm sure I would have ripped the roof off before St. Louis, if my aunt hadn't mentioned it to me. XD

Proximity to Mexico=better mexican food. If you like that style of cooking, snag some while you are on the left coast. You will only regret it when you get home, and it is no longer easily accessible.

If you can get to Monterey, (and like sea creatures) the aquarium is astonishing. Best one in the country, in my opinion.

My best advice: ask the locals where the best _______ is, and then go try it. Most people are friendly and helpful, and proud of something their hometown (especially in a kickass hometown like San Francisco). San Francisco is a groovy place, and there is lots to do, and so much WONDERFUL stuff to eat. Fisherman's Wharf is a hoot, and the city itself is very easy on the eyes.

Go to the beach and look at the impressive force that is the pacific ocean... but know that the water will be COLD. Not just because it is April, but because the water off the coast of CA is always cold. Pacific shelf and all that...

Man, am I jealous/excited for you. I love it out there.

I'm really excited, too. It seems like there's going to be a lot of really amazing things to do. Already, we have plans to check out some of the waterfront destinations.

I can't wait!
