LJ Idol -- Season 7 -- Week One: Winding Up

Nov 05, 2010 20:27

Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…

Beginning a new season of therealljidol is always an adventure. There are familiar faces of returning contestants, n00bs new personalities, and, of course, interesting prompts to struggle with each week.

Flexing my writing muscles after a pretty long hiatus, it can take some time to get comfortable in the GREEN ROOM and in submitting my entries. I’m not sure if it is really my busy schedule (I'm sure 100+ other contestants could say the same thing) or if it’s just me being a perfectionist - wanting to write something that touches a broad audience, that’s memorable (perhaps witty or funny) and well-written.

This season is no different.

I mean, here we are in Week 1, and while I had a million and one topics floating around in my head when I first saw the prompts, I have hesitated to really get anything on paper written.

Should I write about being a dragon? Living with dragons? Being a princess or hero fighting off dragons?
Should I write about baseball? Corporate America? The start of something new?

Lots of thoughts were swirling around Tuesday night when I first saw the prompts, but now, on Friday night, the day before the deadline, I have nothing written. Sitting here with a glass of wine, watching Freddy vs. Jason, here I am, on my third or fourth attempt at an entry with not much to show.

But, as I said before, therealljidol is always an adventure. I guess it’s just one that needs some winding up before really hitting it out of the park.
