1432: How do I reduce, reuse, and recycle?

Mar 15, 2012 12:00

Besides the obvious method of recycling by putting recyclable materials into recycling bins, I also use certain items that are made of recycled material, like water bottles (the 5 gallon kind), napkins, and paper towels. Items made of recycled material are helpful to the environment as well as to the economy, as they reduce the need for items of comparable utility to be manufactured and paid for. As for reducing and reusing, I make sure not to use more than what I need for any typical situation and reuse what I can. For instance, it is important not to throw away napkins and paper towels after they have been barely used. After picking up one such item, I usually carry it around until I'm certain I will no longer need it. I have actually stopped using 1 liter water bottles for drinking water, instead carrying around a vacuum flask with water in it. This has conceivably reduced my usage of plastic considerably.
