When Physicists Watch Fireworks

i bought a ticket out to la on saturday. so now ill be flying home from the reu on saturday, august 12th, heading out to la on wednesday the 16th, returning wednesday the 23rd, and heading to school saturday the 26th. craziness. and in the brief 4.5 working days in which ill be home, i need to have 4 doctors appointments and get a haircut.

in other news, my mom was here this weekend, and we had alot of fun. we wandered around east lansing on saturday, going to an art gallery for a picasso exhibit, and then going to various stores on the "main drag" as my mom insists on calling it. then on sunday we went to ann arbor with lisa and andrew, and ive gotta say - ann arbor is a MUCH more fun city than east lansing. theres so much to see there.

on the fourth of july, i went to a barbeque at my advisors house, which was really really good. mmmmm it was such good food. then lisa and andrew and i went to a riverside park in lansing to see the fireworks, and lisa brought her 3d glasses. not the kind in which one eye is red and one is blue, but the kind that has a diffraction grating in the eyepieces. we passed them around during the fireworks, and holy shit it was amazing. andrew described it as "it turns one firework into like eight." there was also a strong wind blowing the fireworks away from where they exploded even before their light completely faded. then of course after they faded, you could see their smoke drifting away, forming a sort of "fireworks vs. time" graph. it was pretty nifty.

not much else to say, things arent too exciting around here, and ive got to get studying.
