Had to take a few hours' annual leave this afternoon because my dad's in the hospital.

He's OK.

He was having a stress test (where they put you on a treadmill and watch what your heart does) which showed up a new and interesting form of arrythmia (sic). New for him, old hat for the lovely folks at Glenfield CCU. I've taken him some pajamas, some reading material, and his mobile phone on the off-chance that he might even switch it on. Well, it was switched on when his mother rang so that was good! They're keeping him in overnight to see if anything else interesting happens, and they're going to do an angiogram, they're talking about Monday for that, so they can see what's causing the new and interesting heart silliness. They may let him go home tomorrow and come back on Monday for the angiogram, they may make him stay in so they can keep an eye on him. While I was there they moved him from an emergency bed to a step-down bed, because someone more ill than him came in.

My family does like to make me worry. On the plus side, I now have Andy's phone number, he's got my mobile number, and he managed to talk to dad by calling when (by happy coincidence) was in the hospital sitting next to him.

What worries me the most is that dad never feels ill when he's ill. He didn't feel ill when he was first diagnosed as having bad hypertension, he didn't feel ill when he was first diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, and now he's had ventricular tachycardia and didn't feel ill with that either! Will anything short of a heart attack actually make this man feel freakin' ill??

family, dad
