I was busy all of yesterday and only now had the time to watch Merlin, first of all, YAY IT IS BACK!
Merlin/Arthur
First of all, this needs to be said. I HATE that despite all the dying for each other and other past development in their relationship, it seems like we are back to square one. And I am not happy with this Arthur, I get they were trying to make a point, but really? He sends him to the cells and when shit hits the fan doesn’t make the connection to Merlin’s words? Doesn’t release him? Also replacing him in a day and trusting some guy over him without being possessed, I just don’t buy it. Yes, they are not equal and that is a problem, but I just don’t believe Arthur doesn’t care for Merlin at all. Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant.
But! I do heart their banter, I love how they bicker even in front of Uther and he is so used by it by now, he doesn’t even blink.
And, how close does Merlin sleep? I like that Arthur wakes up with Merlin’s name on his lips!
And whoa Merlin serves as his stool, that’s a bit, well.
And I love Merlin’s extremely jealous reaction to Cedric.
“I just want Arthur to trust me and to see me for who I really am”
“Everything I do is for him and he just thinks I am an idiot”
Oh Merlin, this makes me feel both sad and ecstatic, it really seems like the whole point of the ep is that Merlin is quietly in love and Arthur doesn’t see it, it makes my heart break.
Gwen
There wasn’t much of Gwen, but I must say that she really is looking especially pretty, and I really approve of the improved wardrobe.
Gwen/Arthur
Yay, Gwen saved Arthur, oh Arthur, for the hero of this story you do need a lot of saving, I love it!
Aww, finding the Gwen/Arthur absolutely adorable, and no it doesn't put a stop to the Merlin/Arthur, despite what it may sometimes look like, that is not canon.
Morgana
I love that she is being sarcastic and useful and brilliant really, I wish there was more of her.
Arthur
I am on two minds about Arthur. On the one hand he is being a tool and an idiot, because seriously trusting a stranger after knowing him for all of one second when every day people try to kill him is NEVER a good idea.
On the other, well, my anger subsided when he became all honourable and awesome. I just love how there is a switch when danger is imminent and Arthur becomes amazing, and then I get it, why Merlin loves him, what he will become. His duty and dignity and power and pity, it is beautiful to behold, sacrificing himself again and again for his people, his horror at the sight of the dead, are characteristics of a great king. I just love that he can be both the biggest prat that ever pratted and also an amazing ruler, it separates the king from the person and it is fascinating.
Merlin
I have little to say about Merlin which isn’t related to Arthur, but my notes say: "Aww, Merlin puppy eyes, surely they would have worked.
Oh god Merlin’s smile, melting” which speaks for itself, I guess.
Gwen/Morgana
Not too much of that, but I love the parallels between Morgana’s first appearance and Arthur’s. They are in bed and calling for their royal servants, and the contrast in their reactions is wonderful, I love that Morgana feels guilty for having to wake Gwen and Gwen being so used to comfort her.
General
I have to wonder, with countless dead each episode, how does Camelot survive?

So, what happened with Cedric, is he dead? What is the explanation for his defeat?? Arthur did it and then forgot?

While Cedric was a fun villain, Cornelius was extremely cliched.
Oh and JKR called, she wants her plot/character names back!
