Chapter 9:
“Do you think it’s possible?” the Chief repeated Tamamori’s questions.
“I don’t think you would allow that. But it’s for the patient’s well-being. It wouldn’t do her any good if she’s chained up all the time…” Tamamori stopped talking as there was a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
“Chief, I’ve…Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know Tamamori sensei is here. I’ll come in again later.” Fujiwara said and was about to close the door when Chief Tanaka said something to him.
“No, it’s alright. Tamamori sensei and I were just having a short discussion. Come on in.”
Fujiwara did as he was told and sat right next to Tamamori.
“Tamamori sensei, say why don’t we have a vote on this matter?”
“Okay.”
“Fujiwara-kun, Tamamori sensei suggested that we should release Mitsuhara instead of ‘restricting her movements’ all the time. So what do you think?”
“Can I say what I really think, Chief?”
“Sure, go on. I’m sure Tamamori sensei wouldn’t mind what you will say, right sensei?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm…I think it’s alright since she didn’t choose to escape even though she had a very big chance to do so. There’s nothing to be afraid of since this place is heavily guarded.” Fujiwara said.
Chief Tanaka was speechless for a moment. He thought Fujiwara would have the same thought as he does.
“O-okay. Let’s vote then. Hands up if you believe Mitsuhara should not be cuffed.”
Two hands shot up in the air.
“What is he doing?” Mitsuhara asked as one of the officers fumbled with the keys to the hand-cuff. Tamamori stood by the corner and watch in amusement.
“You are free now.”
“I’m free? You mean I can walk out of this room without being shot?”
“Not in that sense. I mean as long as you’re in this room, you don’t need that.” Tamamori said and pointed to the hand-cuff that the officer is holding on to now.
“Thanks.” Tamamori said to the officer as the officer left the room. Mitsuhara rubbed her left wrist.
“Feeling nice?”
“Yea…thanks.” Mitsuhara said and smiled. “Won’t you stay?” She blurted out when she saw Tamamori turning around, heading towards the door.
Tamamori smiled and said, “I’m sorry, I would really love to but I have not taken my dinner yet and I have some paper work to do. Good night.”
“Tama-chan!!” Tamamori turned around and saw Fujiwara running towards him. Tamamori and Sasaki were holding a tray of food in the cafeteria, walking towards an empty table.
“Why didn’t you guys wait for me?” Fujiwara whined as he sat down.
“Not eating?” Sasaki asked him.
“No, just milk will do.” Fujiwara said while holding up a carton of milk. “Ne, Tamamori, how’s Mitsuhara-san?”
“She’s fine. Not having headaches so frequently lately.” Tamamori said without looking up from his food.
“It’s good to hear that.” Sasaki said.
“Fujiwara, I heard from Mitsuhara that you’ve been visiting her a lot nowadays.” Tamamori said.
“Yea…”
“I hope you don’t question her anything during those visits.”
“Aw… don’t worry about that. I’m not that kind of person. Besides, socializing is good for Mitsuhara-san, right? Rather than being confined to her room and no one to talk to except for her handsome doctor.”
“Tamamori-sensei is more on the cute side rather than handsome…I mean it in a good way.” Sasaki added.
Tamamori blushed a little and cleared his throat to make sure his point is clear.
“Sasaki-san, how’s your wife now?” Fujiwara asked before he took a sip of milk.
“Eh----EHH!!” Tamamori exclaimed.
“What happened, Tama-chan?” Sasaki asked.
“Not you too…Stop calling me that. I didn’t know you have a wife, Sasaki-san. You’re still so young…”
“Well, there’s no law saying that you can’t get married early right? Besides that, why wait when you’ve found the right one?”
“Yea, that’s true…”
“Then, Tama-chan, have you ever been in love?” Fujiwara asked.
“Erm…no. It’s more like I don’t know if I like that person… How do you know if you like that person?” Tamamori said.
“EHH---!! Maji??” Fujiwara exclaimed.
Both Sasaki and Fujiwara were shocked that Tamamori didn’t know anything about it at all. “Okay, have you ever felt that when you are near this certain person, you heart beats rapidly?” Fujiwara asked.
“No.”
“Have you ever felt that you want to meet this person and talk to her all the time?” Sasaki asked.
“Are patients counted?”
“BAKA!! You really are hopeless, ne…” Fujiwara said and sighed.
“Then how about this. Have you ever felt that you can talk to this person for hours without noticing the time past and before long, you slowly start to notice her facial expressions and her smile?” Sasaki asked.
“I guess there is one person. She’s my patient thought. I think it’s a doctor’s thing to notice the patient’s facial expression…” Tamamori said as he scratched his head.
“Who is it?” Fujiwara leaned forward and asked eagerly. Sasaki too, did the same.
“Mitsuhara.”
