Well, today Keio University sent me an e-mail requesting my contact information in
Japan and after I replied, I soon after got a phone call from a professor of Japanese
literature, and I had to talk with him in Japanese. He has since sent me interview
questions via e-mail, and I have to answer them in Japanese. On the phone, he asked
what English authors I thought influenced Meiji writers, but I didn't know what to say.
Even if I had read everything in my English classes, I feel like English undergraduate
education if fairly broad, and I didn't focus on any particular time period (like the
19th century). Oh well, I will do my best. This is turning out to be a much longer
process than I thought it would be.
