Keito snuck out of level six, he was sick of being down here with the vamps, his powers hadn’t matured yet he was still safe. He found a tunnel; he picked the lock and broke the code quickly. It wasn’t hard…he took a walk through the grounds and wondering into a place on the beach that bore signs that read ‘Bewares of dogs, No Trespassing, Private Property.’ He sighed, he couldn’t hear one and there were no fences. He kept going, he noticed a teenager girl lying on a large beach towel in a red bikini scribbling fiercely away

She turned and blinked at him, she called out, “Dare….dare desu ka…”

Keito blinked, “Okamoto Keito desu…I was wandering around the resort and ended up here.”

She glanced around, “Didn’t you see the signs? This is private property…it belongs to my father Sugaya Hiroto. No one is supposed to trespass…”

Keito blinked, “I haven’t seen any dogs…”

Risako laughed, there were no dogs…but trespassers didn’t need to know that. She smiled, she sensed something different about this guy and yet something similar, “That’s because we only let them loose during the night…”

Keito nodded, “Should I leave then…”

Risako saw he was in his swim trunks, she smiled, “I was about to go for a swim want to come…”

Keito blinked, “A swim…do you invite all trespassers for swim…”

Risako shook her head, “No, I’m a writer. I only invite those who interest me.”

Keito shook his head, “A writer…but you can’t be much older then me. Aren’t you 16 or 17…”

Risako snarled, flashing her fangs on accident, “Age has nothing to do with talent…”

Keito hadn’t sensed that she was a vampire, but she had fangs…what was she? He knew his own kind…

She nodded, of course he was a vampire…he couldn’t be anything else…he was certainly not a fellow wolf. If he was a vampire, why was he walking beneath the sun? She thought they all lived in fear of its power. She rolled her eyes, he didn’t control his thoughts and there was no scent of blood, he was 17 and he hadn’t come into his powers yet? That was rare, immortals usually came into their powers around puberty and he had obvious entered that stage of development. She sighed, “You want to still go for that swim…”

Keito nodded and pulled off his lifeguard shirt, “Sure, I can never resist the water…”

Risako ran laughing into the water.

Keito watched her; she had a grace…a way of movement that teased his memory. What was she?

She dove in and swam out a ways, she knew how far she could swim safely, she called out, “Come on in, the water’s warm…”

Keito swam to meet her with fluid, sure strokes.

She admired his form; his skill was on par with her own. He had a nice body and looked delicious…

she knew he could not read her mind yet and he could not figure out what she was.

He reached her and watched as she swam in circles around him.

She swam laughing; she hadn’t had anyone to swim with all summer. Otousan was always busy, as an aide to one of the seven elders. He was trying to get a third party to broker blood deals with Inoo Kei-sama. It would be unseemly for a wolf to rely on a vampire to sustain their need for blood. She didn’t see what the big deal was…there was nothing all that different between them.

She was writing a novel about a Hound of Thiess or a werewolf as many people called them who fell in love with a vampire. The book could get her in a lot of trouble…her other novels bordered on breaking the greatest law of the Homo lupus, as they were termed because of their close resemblance to both species. Which was they do not exist in the human’s scheme of the world, because they had lost too many to fear and superstition. She wrote them as fiction…something like a vampire book that had been written as fact but according to her research was fantasy. Her books were based on Thiessian lore, their origins, their desires and their beliefs.

They called themselves, the hounds of Thiess, Thiess was their ancestor, he was a decent of the fabled Atlantis. The Atlantians were a race of aliens that had managed to escape their planet’s sun going nova. They were not immortals many believed, they were long lived according to their species’ genetics. The explosion of an undersea volcano that resulted in a massive earthquake destroyed them through a tsunami as near as anyone could tell. They were shape shifters in a sense; they had the ability to shift into a creature that resembled terran wolves. They revered the dead in their culture, so on many a full moon, they congregated in cemeteries worldwide and howled anthems to the souls of the departed. Their behavior resulted in canines being revered and sometimes worshiped in many cultures as protectors of the dead.

Her writing of such things was nearly cataclysmic dividing the Council of Elders and nearly resulting in her father’s dismissal. They were however, blood drinkers as myth described. A few of her kind were driven mad by their lust for blood and became the bloodthirsty rapists that inspired fear and myth. The human proved to be ingenious, discovering that silver had a poisonous affect on their bodies. The silver was fatal; it had taken their advanced scientists centuries to find an antidote to it. The knowledge was a closely guarded secret by the council; she had overheard her father protesting that the Hunters still lived. The antidote must be turned into a vaccine…to protect the innocent from being punished for the sins of rogue wolves. Antidote to silver…that was news to her…she wondered at the vampires…was their aversion to sunlight more a reaction to ultraviolet light? Is it possible that they too escaped their world to avoid a catastrophe? They seemed to be as sociologically and technologically advanced, as the hounds were…they had been organized worldwide about the same time.

Their Vampire Commission had the same power as the Thiessian Council of Elders; it had proven difficult to obtain vampiric records. The Bureau of Special Investigation, something akin to her people’s okamisamas as they were called in Japan who policed their kind, held most of such records. She had through trial, error and stealth acquired the information she desired. The vampires believed themselves to be descendants of the Olympians, a race of superior beings that the Greeks revered as Gods. This struck her as odd, why latch on a group of mythical gods as their ancestors unless they were actual people. Was it truly possible that the ambrosia of legend was blood? Both of their kinds survived on blood, why? In addition, why was hers the only people that embraced their knowledge that they were not of this world? Two long-lived peoples existing on a diet of blood on a world where they did not belong…could they be related? Why had no one asked the question before…she decided to be honest with the boy, he had no deception in his heart.

She pointed towards the shore and swam towards it.

Keito had been admiring her as they swam, who was this Risako and why did he sense something familiar about her?

Risako emerged from the water and shook herself like the canine she sometimes resembled. Her people had always resembled canines; though they tended to mimic the breed that inhabited their part of the world. Her family took the Shamanu and Ezo or Honshu and Hokkaido wolf as their own when they moved to Japan in centuries past. She was a Honshu wolf herself…she waited for Keito to join her. She patted the blanket beside her; she asked softly, “You’re a vampire aren’t you…”

Keito froze at her words, how did she know…

Risako laughed, “Dear, I know more then you think…I have powers too. I know you haven’t received yours, but I want to ask you some questions. I want to tell you something but you have to promise not to mention it to anyone including your father, the former VC President.”

Keito’s mouth went dry and he shivered from the sun, who was this girl and how did she know some much about him? Was she in Omega?

Risako shook her head, “I have no relationship to Omega…they have hunted us on occassion too…they had our brethren slaughtered to elimination us. We call them the hunters…”

Keito was so confused, if she wasn’t Omega and she wasn’t a vampire, what was she?

Risako crouched as transformed, she sat up on her haunches and spoke in a clear voice, “I am what humans term a were-wolf but in truth we are neither wolf nor human, we are from a dead planet. We are the Hounds of Thiess…”

Keito jumped as the girl beside him turned in a creature that resembled one of the extinct Honshu wolves in the Tokyo museum. His mind threatened to exploded, a were-wolf he had been spending time with a were-wolf…weren’t they violent bloodthirsty creatures of legend?

Risako sighed, “Those were rogues and what the humans didn’t kill, we did. We isolated ourselves spreading out after the destruction of Atlantis. We still had rogues through the centuries but the okamisamas took them out like your Special Investigations take out violent vampires.”

Keito was even more shell-shocked, this were-wolf or Hound of Thiess as she called herself knew a lot about them…

Risako rolled her eyes, “I am psychic, Keito, I can read your thoughts. I told you I am a writer…I have my ways of getting the information I want. I found a woman in Tokyo who specializes in it. I want to talk to you…I am writing a book but I need to know things about vampires I haven’t found in my research. This book maybe the last one I ever write so it has to be good…” she said sadly.

Keito shook himself out his stupor, “Nande…”

Risako curled up in lupine form, “Because the council of elders will not approve of my books. I write about things that should be hidden…things that are sacred. This is my last book because after they read it…I will die…”

Keito had the strangest urge to pull her closer so her head rested in his lap that he could not resist. She was an outcast among her own people just as he was…he was because he had failed to turn.
He was 17 and he had no powers…his strength was average, he could not fly, he did not desire blood and his senses were limited compared to those his own age. He still walked beneath the sun and had no aversion to water. He was a product of a doomed romance between his father and a human woman he met in the final years of his reign as VC President.

The woman was sickly and vampiric rules prevented his father from turning her. She died giving birth to him and he was his father’s treasure. He was an enigma, most vampires had their children between 22 and 45, and his father had him at over 150. His father was ridiculed for his fling with his mother and he was a pariah among his own kind. A vampire that was not supposed to exist, he was smart and talented at many things making himself even more despised because of his father’s age he should have been more like his mother.

Risako felt comforted by his presence and was lost in his thoughts as they spilled out. This kid better learn to shield his thoughts, or he might be in danger. She whispered into his mind, “Keito…”

Keito heard her in his mind; instead of frightening him…he found her voice comforting.

She told him many things, things about their people that she knew and things that she guessed. They must be related somehow, they both were eons ago displaced to this world for one reason or another. Hers because of a super nova…perhaps his for the same reason…perhaps because of their mutual need of blood for survival it was the same place.

Keito listened to her in silence, he was a quiet person and this type of communication comforted him.

Risako noticed the sun beginning to set and froze listening; she heard the howls of the pack and looked at Keito. She stood silent that changed her form to resemble that American grey wolf and said quietly, “Get on…we have to hurry. It will cause trouble if they find you here.”

Keito stood silently; he grabbed his shirt and sandals. He climbed onto her back; she had grown in size before his eyes.

She ran, she had to get him away from the packs territory before they reached the beach. She was used to being smaller; the new size would hamper her speed as well as his weight. She never carried anyone but cubs, Keito was far larger than a cub…he was tall but light for his age. She ran collapsing inside the resort; she was exhausted and shifted back out of her wolf form.

Kei realized that she was weak and shivering, he placed his shirt on her. She was too weak to move and the run had tired her. He picked her up gently and carried her towards the tunnel.

She was too exhausted to protest, she was so comfortable with him that she trusted him completely.

Keito unlocked the door with ease and carried her inside. He listened for footsteps of his vampiric kin…he heard none. He scurried into his suite that he shared with Otousan, he sniffed…otousan must still be with Inoo-sama and Kato-sama. He carried her into his room and laid her on the bed. He went to retrieve a bottle of blood; he poured some into a goblet and held it out to her.

Risako smelled the fresh blood but was too weak to sit up. She sent a request to his mind, "Help me…"

Keito sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her into his lap.

She rested his head on her shoulder, as he held the glass to her lips. She tried to drink slowly to refresh herself but the craving was too strong. She needed more, her fangs were more pronounced and the blood she had consumed only intensified her need. She said hoarsely, “more…”

Keito could sense her terror; he held the bottle to her lips foregoing the glass.

Risako knew what was happening, she had missed lunch and was entering what vampires called the early stages of bloodrage. It was something that had never happened to her, rages were rarer among her kind then among vampires. She was a more then an outlaw…she was a rogue…

Keito saw the blood and felt something snap within him…he felt cold terror that was not completely his own. He saw the blood and craved it; he felt his teeth press against his lips. He dropped the bottle in Risako’s lap, and felt his teeth…he had fangs…real fangs. He was a vampire…

Risako sensed his terror growing and because of his lack of control, it burdened her mind. She was so close to losing control, she screamed and closed her mind.

Keito felt her disappear and froze; he was alone…

Risako curled up in a ball, she was afraid, as she had never been in her life.

Keito reached for the bottle only to see her bare her fangs and snarl. He bared his own and growled.

Risako though Keito with fangs was hot…then she realized…he was changing…he was a vampire now. He needed blood as much as she did…she was on the verge of a rage, and if she wasn’t careful he would be too. There was only one way for them to survive…they had to break all the rules and mate. She took a deep breathe and called out to him, “Keito…” she softly spoke the old words to him, “By the full moon and Pleiades, I offer myself. We are one blood, one life, one love, one soul. Take what is yours…”

Keito was startled to here those words, they were at once foreign and familiar…words he did not understand sprang from his lips, “Risa, by Sirius and the new moon, we are as you say. I accept you for eternity as mate, lover, and companion for as long as the stars shine.”

Risa was floored, how did he know the proper words…those were not the vampire bonding vows…they were not the mating ritual’s vows. These were ancient vows…millenniums had past since they were last spoken…they were related, they had to be.

Keito smashed their lips together in a crushing kiss.

Risako swooned, he was hers…but she would never be able to run with the pack again. She was a lone wolf…

Keito heard her sorrow; he wrapped her in his arms forcing his growing lust away.

Risako held back her tears; she lost her pack for the love of a vampire…just like in her book.

Keito whispered, “You lost nothing, they hurt you…you are precious…my Risa…”

Risa kissed him back; she was drifting away from the rage in an unfamiliar feeling. She recognized it in him too. They were no longer in danger of bloodrage; they were in the throws of bloodlust. She hugged him tightly, she didn’t want to consummate their vows just yet…she wasn’t ready and neither was he. She spoke the ancient words once more, “I know your needs…your desire…I want to fulfill them…take what you need. I offer you life…”

Keito felt more words that he knew from somewhere, fill his mind, “Your blood is my life…I accept it as my own.” He tasted her flesh and let his fangs crest her skin.

Risako cried out, it didn’t hurt…it brought her so much pleasure. She felt hot and wet, the sucking broken something inside her.

Keito felt her need…her thirst as if it were his own…he pressed his wrist to her lips in invitation.

Risako caressed his skin with her tongue before piercing his flesh with her fangs; warm blood filled her, strengthening her.

Keito felt her draw his blood into her, it made him at one hard and then as she drank he felt something explode within him.

They pulled away at the same time, pausing only to lick the other’s wounds.

Keito barely noticed he was sticky and wet, he saw blood…his blood on Risa’s lips.

Risako saw the same thing, her blood on his lips; it was entrancing…

They reached to kiss each other, the rush of feeding had faded and they collapsed exhausted on the bed.

Risako curled up in his arms like a puppy and fell asleep.

Keito scratched behind her ears and fell asleep cradling her in his arms.
