Rescue Me ch.1 Yamapi checked on his dinner, he was backing chicken. He planned on heating up his rice from earlier and just having that tonight. He stretched and went back to his script for Dragon Zakura.
He woke up later to a strong smell of smoke and burned meat as well as a blaring smoke alarm. He checked the clock and yelped, he must have fallen asleep. He hurried to check on how badly he had burned it. He choked as he pulled the oven door open, the flames leapt out at him, growing from the inflow of more air.
He jumped back to avoid being burned and watched in horror as one of the tongues of flames licked a towel that was too close to the stove. It caught fire so fast there must have been some oil on it from that morning when he had fried fish. He couldn’t reach the fire extinguisher because of the heat. He grabbed his cell phone from the table and the script; as he called the area’s emergency number to report the fire. He gave his address and begged coughing as he left the kitchen, “Please hurry…I don’t want it to spread…” he didn’t want it to spread more…he was embarrassed enough as it was. He hadn’t even rented the apparent under his own name to avoid publicly and stalkers.
He didn’t know what else to do, he was a good cook, this had never happened before. He must have been working too hard and hadn’t had enough rest.
He couldn’t stay in the apparent and had to leave. He grabbed his messenger bag that had his wallet and keys as well as sunglass and a scarf. He ran from the apartment, coughing and trying to herd everyone away saying there was a fire and that they should leave. He tried to hide his identity as well as he could.
The nearby fire station had had a team leave in a hurry and by the time he reached the ground floor they were pouring out of the truck. He told them how to get to his apartment and what number it was. He waited until they announced it was save and that it had in the end been contained to his kitchen.
The leader of the team pulled off his helmet and wiped the sweat from his face and fussed with his hair as he smiled at him. He pulled off a glove and held out his hand, “Masuda Takahisa. You were wise to call us when you did. It might have been much worse if you hadn’t…”
Yamapi blushed behind the scarf, “I am so sorry, I must have fallen asleep…” he said softly, lifting his glasses nervously, “I don’t suppose I need to introduce myself….”
Massu blinked, Yamashita Tomohisa? No way…he nervously smiled, trying not to draw attention to the idol who was hotter in person. Even a straight guy like him couldn’t help being affected by a guy like the famous Yamapi, “Next time turn the stove down…I would call you insurance agent. Hopefully you can get it fixed soon. Your downstairs neighbor and the one on the other side of your kitchen should have their apartments check for water and smoke damage just to be safe. I would hate to have the ceiling collapse on them.”
Yamapi nodded, “Yes…I’ll do that…” he let out a sigh of relief, he had been worried that the leader of the team that just saved his apartment might have yelped at the sight of him. He would have his manger make the arrangements as silently as possible he would hated to have this made public. They would probably blame it on something other then sleeplessness making it a scandal. He bowed slightly as he said quietly, “Thank you…for understanding my need for privacy.”
Massu stammered nervously, “We’re professionals sir. We are here to serve everyone. To us everyone is equal.” There was a truth in his voice…he meant what he said. He always felt sorry for idols because they never seemed to be allowed to have a life; everything they did was scrutinized. He was sort of a hero in this neighborhood. If there was an emergency in this area if they saw him the crowd seemed to calm immediately convinced that it was going to be okay. He had a crack team for regular fire fighters; it wasn’t unusual to have one of his people be transferred to the special unit for major emergencies. He kept them in perfect shape insisting they eat healthy and exercise regularly. His standards were nearly as demanding as those of the special rescue units. He had too much of an attachment to his home station to leave it yet he made sure every man he sent was capable of passing the rigorous training if they wanted to
Yamapi nodded, giving him a real smile not one of those he gave because of work, “Thank you anyway…” he went to go get a few items, he would have to spend the night somewhere. He would probably called Tegoshi Yuya who worked for the same company…they were friends of a sort. He had help Tesshi out a few difficulties and his kouhai owed him a few favors that he could crash a few nights on his couch. He would have to have his entire wardrobe dry cleaned to make sure the smoke hadn’t spread through the apartment much. It would be an expensive clean up this mess…he tried to avoid making any sort of contact with the other residents as he hurried away. He kept thinking about that nice fire fighter.
He had a strong firm handshake and he was very handsome…what was his name again? Taka…something…he would have to send him something to thank him…then he realized he had forgotten to find out with fire station he was from. How could he be so foolish? Tesshi would laugh at him, Tesshi was one of the few who knew that he was gay. It was disconcerting to be the idol every guy wanted to be and every girl wanted to have your babies. He had been voted the one girls most want to kiss, be romanced by, sleep with and quite a few others he shivered just thinking about…
