Phoenix was horrible today. He acted like he had never seen a halter before, never been lunged before, and had never been lead before. I worked with him, and it was a pretty long battle just to get him to WALK beside me. I'm not a horse trainer, nor do I pretend to be one. A very close friend of mine promised when I got him that she'd help me, and that has yet to happen. So I've been on my own, doing what I know how to do and working very slowly with him. I've even been researching trainers and crunching numbers trying to see if I can make things happen for the horse in the spring.
If I had known that this girl was going to abandon me with helping with this horse I never would have gotten him. I'm just getting back into horses after a looooong break away when I went to college. I've only been riding again for about a year and a half. So while I REALLY hate to call myself a beginner because I rode for over 10 years before my 5 year break, there just really isn't any other way to look at it.
In my frustration I post on Facebook:
"Phoenix was horrid today, makes we think if I really want to keep him or not..."
5 mins later a 'friend' of mine posts this as her status:
"I must say that it amuses me greatly when people throw up their hands at problem horses...here's a couple solutions: A:Work on it yourself..do your research, ask questions etc., B: Get a trainer or C: How about you don't own any horses. Just my opinion, but have the F it attitude never got anyone anywhere"
I'm trying not to be snippy and reply to her, that girl owes me over $200 when I offered to help her pay for a vet bill on her horse over SIX months ago, but she certainly isn't helping with my frustrations for the evening!
