So Apple made it's big MacWorld announcements today, and I'm pretty much in awe of just about everything they announced. So I'm pretty much going to rant/rave about them, and I'm putting it in a cut, because I'm a nice guy like that.
According to the always-helpful Ars Technica, servicing the Mac mini is a huge pain in the ass - most people could buy the memory themselves, but not easily install it. Also, I get the impression that there may only be one extra memory slot on the whole thing, which means if you want a gig of memory, you gotta by it all in one DIMM.
On the other hand, people are swapping the batteries out of their suppposedly "hermetically sealed" iPods, so maybe memory upgrades to the mini won't be as bad as all that.
Well, one idea I saw floating around is buying it with less RAM, buying third party RAM, then having your local Mac store install it. In fact, Apple Care might even cover that, but I'm not positive there.
I checked Crucial though, if I didn't screw up, it looks like they still sell a gig for 300 bucks or so, which is an improvement, but still bad.
