Update 18

Jan 19, 2011 03:28

I was planning on writing a roundup post for everything I'd finished and failed to finish in 2010, but I've started three abortive attempts and I'd really rather just write an update on the things I want to be writing this year.  I'm going to undertake postgraduate studies this year, as well as a few personal research projects for family members, so my ambitions for fortnightly fic posting are going to be slowed down to monthly.  I'll post TAoSK fortnightly until it finishes, then change to monthly.

I've got some WIPs that will be rounding up. I've finished working on The Anagram of Suzumiya Kurumi, so I'll just keep posting those on schedule with final revisions every fortnight. I've got some ficlets for Slayers that I'm not intending to post until the fanbook comes out, though it's been very nearly a year. I wanted to develop one into a longer story, so perhaps I'll end up posting them in friends-locked posts if the fanbook doesn't make it out this year.

I've also got some completed drafts that need redrafting before posting:

1. The Road Less Travelled. An idea I had for a Ranma 1/2 story in 2004, where I draw upon the often sexist interpretations of gender identity in the series as well as Akane and Ranma's concepts of gender identity to build up a fable involving the god and goddess of pathways. I've got a complete first draft but some sections need intensive reworking and rewriting. I found it hard to separate at times the in-character perceptions of gender identity and my own, and I really want everything to be clear and polished before I post this. It's technically been in draft for six years, so I'm in no rush to get this one out. I want to make it worth reading. Hopefully it'll be out sometime 2011.

2. Fifteen Hundred Hours. A tentative tea-time based story focusing on Seras Victoria from Hellsing. I've had some Brit-picking, canon and cultural commentary on this fic, and though the draft is complete and has had editoral notes made I want to research some aspects and think very hard about some of the characterisation before I post it. It's short, though, so I expect it to be out in the first half of this year.

3. Antiheroes Anonymous. A multi crossover story, I've finished several chapters. While the chapters are of similar length, working with an increasing cast size and some episodic canon material (I read 100 single-issue comics for the Hellblazer chapter, I'll have to read ten books for the Hugh Cook one) mean that while I wanted to finish this in early 2010 I'm still working on it. It'll be great and fun, and hopefully there will be someone out there other than me who knows all the characters. You can find reading lists under my AA tag.

4. Untitled Read or Die Multi-chaptered work. This is going to be a long one, focusing on events following on after the end of R.O.D the TV. It's going to be ensemble cast with multiple pairings, and thanks to canon a lot of confused triangles and unrequited emotions. I'm up to chapter four of my draft, and once I finish posting TAoSK I hope to be able to start uploading this one.

5. A Dark City fic draft that I wrote with Zoi_no_miko in mind and now just have to edit and find a beta for. I'm scared, so I'm putting this off for at least a week.

And I've got ideas that I plan on working on in several fandoms. Some are one-shots, some are multiple chapters. I have plans for another long R.O.D fic, a long Hellsing AU fic, A long Harry Potter AU fic, A follow-up to my previous Dresden Files TV-verse fic, a Dead Like Me character piece, and I'm eyeing off the NYR prompts list for Yuletide. I've made a bit of a promise to myself, that I'll try to write one-shots for all my requests that didn't get filled, to force myself to find different fandoms or new ideas for 2011. I don't think I'll get everything done, but at the very least I've got a long laundry list of projects that I'm excited about and that I can flit between depending on my mood.
