Remaindered Books in Belco

It amuses me, that Harper seems to think books are like DVD box sets; the special extra features seem odd inclusions.  I sometimes read them and then wonder why on earth they are there.  More often, I feel a deep regret in my heart that some very lovely covers are intruded upon by annoying circles.  If I want my book to look like it's covered in price stickers, I'll damn well leave those on there!

But I have to admit that with Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey and Maturin series they've at least skipped the "About The Author" section, and other repetitious information.  Irrespective of aesthetic pleasures, I'm elated to have picked up four Aubrey and Maturin novels and a Stephen Donaldson I'd never known existed, The Man Who Risked His Partner.  Probably because most of Donaldson's press has been related to his Gap Cycle and the Thomas Covenant series.  I'm looking forward to that one very much, but something tells me that Yasuhei will claim ownership and flee with it to a dark corner before I've finished cooking dinner.

At the very least, 5 for $25 wasn't a bad deal.  I usually avoid Angus and Robertson, as you'll all know by now, but since it's remaindered stock, I felt I could get away with that guilty pleasure.  Also, the mother in-common-law has read the whole series twice, and if I find them enjoyable it means our conversations can focus on LeCarre, Murakami, and O'Brian.  Also, their spines are very pretty colours all in a row.

We spent a points voucher on the Miles Edgeworth game, which is also going to be fought over.  I'll probably get to play it first, because I tend to finish games, whereas dear Yasu often gets bored just before the end.

In the end, today was far less traumatic an outing than we'd expected, and with great books and hopes for the future, I'm off to make dahl and rice.
