Rainstorm

Sep 14, 2008 12:32

Here's hoping the gutters hold.  I don't wanna climb up in the rain by myself.  I'm warm at my pc here, and I've only two hours before the big food shop.

Oh, hail!

The arms-depth of clearing I did two weeks ago seems to be holding us in good stead, but the hail is much less likely to seep through the good metre of accumulated muck than rainwater is.  I guess I'll just cross my fingers.

The rain itself is making me happy.  Yesterday was abysmally hot, and I felt the clawing fear of summer.  If it weren't for the constant paranoia that our roof might flood, interrupting my uni work, today would be brilliant.

Jen's birthday came and went with much hilarity and joy.  I was immensely proud of my cupcakes, and I hope that she liked her present.  She's generally so exuberantly happy when she gets gifts, so her smile and quiet thanks were confusing.  Then again, she might just have been grumpy because she'd overloaded on wheaty cake the day before.  I hope I did the right thing...

Well, she liked the cupcakes.  I think I'm too stressed to notice most of what goes on around me, anyway.  The lecture went well, apparently.  Everyone else liked it.  I think I faltered and stumbled, but I got paid, and treated myself to a DVD and some secondhand books, so I'm happy.  I got to reschedule the tutes till after the 20th of Oct, so that is also making me happy.

Culinary adventures planned this week:

Tofu with cornflour and soba sauce - "Lazy Ros pretends she knows how to make Agadashi Tofu"
Dahl - "Apathetic pot dinner"
Stir Fry - try to remake the flavour that Tom found he could tolerate

I'm also desperately lost in Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, so I'm spending half my days playing with my shadow, and wondering if I should learn to lip-read anytime soon.  Perhaps my shadow has already died, and that's why I can't get my brain into gear...
