I sent this email to my father just a few minutes ago. If he reads it through he will know for sure I wrote this email.
Dad,
Tonight before bed Skinner and I were talking about good things we remember from our childhood when it dawned on my that all of mine, that I thought of, were created by you. I wanted to document them and share them with you because I am sure you do not hear these things often if at all.
* going to McDonalds in East Islip & feeding the ducks
* going to the American Hero for dinner and you trying so hard to encourage me to eat. Weather it be hamburgers without the bun or fish & chips. Afterwards we would get Wise potato chips in your original flavor and moms bbq or onion garlic and head off to the drive in movie theater. At the theater you would put the twin size mattress on the roof of the car for us to watch from there. I always ended up with mega mosquito bites from that even though I mostly insisted on getting between you and mom to watch instead of joining my sisters on the roof.
* setting a comforter on the floor of the living room to watch Buck Rodgers, Battle Star Galactica, Dukes of Hazard, Dance Fever, Solid Gold & (though you did not think it was good for us t watch) Threes Company. You would make Jiffy Pop popcorn and we would watch you shake it on the stove like you were some sort of chef. They were awesome days! You should check out the show "So You Think You Can Dance" next season. I am betting you will like it a lot!
* going to see you play softball. I was so proud to be your little girl. To me, you were Babe Ruth and the softball game was the Major leagues.
* music night in the Keller family house. Center stage was the fireplace.
* Wrestling with you on the living room floor. We kicked your ass and you held back so much. I think we all got hurt but we had so much fun.
* playing Foosball, ping pong & pool. You really taught me and Danielle how to be super competitive and good at the game.
* Playing Monopoly & life. You really gave us so many chances to catch up to you but you still kicked our asses.
* Little army men and rubber bands. For that matter, shooting flies with rubber bands to kill them. Who would have thought?
* Playing Stratego! I could not, for the life of me, recall how to play the game now but I felt like I was learning a real life lesson every time I played the game or watched you play the game.
* being tossed really high through the air by you in the pool. I was always so scared when you did it but would have been so upset if you did not.
* locking my arm around your arm on a roller coaster even though having you next to me always meant the safety bar did not hold me in properly. I would have NEVER gone a roller coaster without you!
There are so many more I can think of but I need to get off to bed. I have to work in the morning like always and I fear that is the reason I never have time to think of these things anymore but what is worse, when I do think of them I never share the thoughts with you. I hope you read this and it brings back memories that make you smile like I have.
