Well... So... Here! A gift to you guys before I leave tomorrow night at eleven o’ clock. :D Once again, it’s not that good, maybe mildly amusing, but nothing much. >_> I guess I’ll get lots of ideas on the twelve-hour trip when I’m awake, anyway, and not daydreaming/dreaming of Fuji. XD. @_@ Oops, that seemed a bit off-topic, didn’t it? Y’know, someone should put up a Tantei Gakuen Q community on LiveJournal. I’d definitely join it! *looks around*

This is way late for April Fool's.. T-T This is for.. nyurotik_onna, I think. Unless you're mad at me. >_< Or something. =_=

Title: Luvly, Merry-Go-Round
Date: April 28 2005
Fandom: Tantei Gakuen Q
Rating: G to PG
Description: Class Q has a case to solve...at a carnival! Reviews/comments welcome. Flames welcome tolerated. :P (Oh, and I don't own Tantei Gakuen Q. Or the song. Which is from TGQ. Sigh. Life can be so unfair.)

It was a bright, sunny May morning when Dan Morihiko, the principal of Dan Detective School, told Class Q of a tip they had received from an anonymous phone call earlier that day. What he told them had made the computer whiz raise his eyebrows and say, “You’re kidding, Mr. Dan.” But no one could argue with the head of the detective school.

It was a bright, sunny May afternoon when Megumi Minami, Kazuma Narusawa, Kintaro Touyama, Ryuu Amakusa, and, last but not least, Kyu, arrived at what could be a scene of a crime: the city carnival. The place was packed with people, mostly Japanese or tourists.

“Wow, look at all the people here!” Megumi said in awe, her pink pigtails bobbing as she ran ahead of everyone else. “This must be a pretty popular place at this time of year.” The young girl had the gift of photographic memory, something she was proud of but gave her slight problems at times. “We’re so lucky!”

Ryuu said, “Well, this carnival only happens on one day every five years. Of course people would want to attend it.” He was already moving closer to Megumi and Kyu, behind Kinta, because he felt uneasy, as if some people were watching him.

Kinta and Kyu were actually checking out a number of short-skirted girls a few meters away. But the schoolgirls weren’t paying the two the least bit of attention-- their eyes were stuck on the blue-haired bishounen.

“Well, it seems like you guys don’t need me,” Kazuma said, as he inched towards the exit. “So, I’m going home now!” He had only begun to run when Kinta grabbed him by his collar and said, “Hey, hey, you’re not going anywhere until we finish whatever Mr. Dan wants us to do.”

Kazuma let out a sigh; he didn’t like being in places with lots of people. But, noo... They just had to be assigned to check out a carnival. The brown-haired boy had absolutely nothing against carnivals. But, the fact was, he would rather spend his time inside an air-conditioned room, typing away at his computer, and maybe with a cup of ramen.

Kyu said excitedly, “Aw, come on, don’t be such a spoilsport, Kazuma! It’s going to be fun here, you’ll see!” The black-haired boy was already eager to begin whatever they had to do, case or no case.

“Well, the fact is, Kyu, we’re not here to have fun,” Megumi said seriously, though her tone showed that she was disappointed. “We’re supposed to look for...suspicious people, aren’t we?” she asked him.

Kyu frowned. “Well, Meg,” he pointed out, “everyone here looks suspicious!”

He was right. By the Tunnel of Love, there were several teenagers who looked like gangsters, with tattoos, in all black, with sunglasses covering their eyes. Smoking cigarettes. There were old men drinking beer and laughing loudly by the brightly lighted carousel, and little children with nasty, malicious looks in their eyes practically everywhere.

Megumi looked around and sweatdropped. “Yeah, that’s right.”

After a few moments of uneasy silence, Kinta turned to them and said triumphantly, “Hey, you guys, I have an idea!”

“We’re all ears, Kinta,” Ryuu said politely.

The self-proclaimed martial arts expert struck a pose and pointed with one finger to the Ferris wheel. “THERE!” he exclaimed.

Everyone looked to the direction he was pointing at. “What’s there, Kinta?” Kazuma asked with a deadpan expression.

Kinta threw up his arms in exasperation. “Don’t you guys get it?!” he said in mock impatience. “If we go and ride the Ferris wheel, we’ll be able to see everything and everyone, especially from that height! Plus we’ll get to see lots of pretty girls... ehehehe...” he added under his breath. Unfortunately, everyone heard that remark.

Kyu said enthusiastically, “That’s a great idea, Kinta!” He turned to the rest of his classmates and said, “Why don’t we? No one can say we’re not doing our job, because we’ll be looking for people. And, besides, it’s a carnival, it’s going to be a lot of fun!”

Ryuu agreed, “Alright then. So, how will we go on the Merry-go-round?” He looked up at the giant contraption, and then added, “I think one can only hold two people.”

“How about we draw lots?” Kazuma suggested. “I’ve got some paper here...” He took a piece of notebook paper from his pocket and gave it to Megumi, who tore it up and wrote down her friend’s names. As she did so, she noticed something. “Um, you guys...” she said. “We’re an odd number. Five. What are we going to do now?”

“Well, whoever’s left out can ride with a random person. I mean,” Kazuma shrugged smugly, “there are a lot of girls who probably don’t want to ride alone...” He glanced over at the girls’ direction. Ryuu shivered.

Kinta and Kyu suddenly said out loud, “Um... I’ll go alone!!” And then they stared at each other with evenly matched expressions. Megumi stepped in the middle of them and said, irritated, “Hey...that’s why we’ve got the draw lots, right?”

Kazuma picked out the pairings with his eyes closed and glasses in Kinta’s hands to ensure no cheating or anything like it. The pairings, as he finished, were as follows:

Meg and Kyu would sit together, followed by Kinta and Kazuma (“Aw, geez,” the young boy groaned), and Ryuu would, sadly, be alone. The blue-haired boy said quickly, though, “It’s okay, I’ll sit by myself” before anyone could call the girls over.

Kyu grabbed Megumi’s hand before she could protest, and said, “Alrighty then! Come on, Meg, let’s go!” He started running towards the entrance of the ride to get tickets. Kinta and Kazuma looked at each other and shrugged, following them. Ryuu went after the two K’s, albeit more slowly and calmly.

When the man told them the price for the tickets, Kyu started. “What...?” He searched his pockets frantically, earning him strange, weirded-out stares from the people around him. Finally he looked up at Meg and said, his eyes overflowing with *sparkly* anime tears, “I forgot my wallet...!”

Megumi felt a vein pulse in her forehead, and she reached into her pocket to get her wallet. “Okay, okay, I’ll pay,” she said slowly, handing the man what she had in her wallet. Kyu said gratefully, “Thank you so much, Meg!” “...It’s nothing,” the pink-haired girl said, embarrassed, and she took the tickets from the man and entered where the carriage they would be sitting in. “Come on, get in!”

Kazuma and Kinta paid for each of their tickets without a fuss, as did Ryuu. The two had entered their carriage when Ryuu felt a tap on his shoulder. Fearing the worst, he turned around...only to see Class A’s Yukihira.

“Oh, hi, Yuki,” he said, calmly. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be at DDS?”

The dark-blue-haired girl said matter-of-factly, “It’s my mom’s birthday so we’re celebrating.” She added, looking around shiftily, “Hey, are you riding with anyone? Because there are a lot of perverts here and I don’t want to take my chances... Not that I can’t handle them, of course.”

Ryuu, relieved, said, “Well, alright then.” After paying for their tickets, the two sat in the nearest carriage, opposite each other, each doing their own thing: Ryuu looking out for any ‘suspicious people’, and Yukihira texting on her cellphone.

In Meg and Kyu’s carriage, the black-haired boy was staring at the view down below, when he said, “You know, Meg, the problem with Kinta’s theory is, we can only see little dots as small as ants from up here.”

The pink-haired girl said slowly, “Well, let’s just do what we can.” It was then she stood up to look at the carriages in front of them, when Kyu noticed...

"Hey, Meg, it's blue with fluffy clouds today!" he said in surprise. "I thought you didn't like blue--"

Megumi's ears perked up and she turned to Kyu with her fist in the air. "Kyu, you pervert!!" she screamed, and hit him right there in the kisser. The scream could be heard to way down on the ground, and so could the impact of the blow.

"OWW! Hey, Meg, that hurt!"

"Will you ever learn, Kyu?!"

From his seat, Kazuma burst out laughing. "Kyu did it again, huh?" he said, tears forming in his eyes. "He just had to do it now!"

Kinta was doubled over in laughter. "Ah, those two never fail to amuse me.." he said in gasps.

In their carriage, Yukihira and Ryuu started from the noise (how could they not? All the birds in the surrounding area promptly flew away when they heard it.), the girl standing up and saying, "Oh, what's wrong now?" She almost dropped her cellphone on the floor, she was that surprised.

Ryuu said quietly, "Kyu peeked again.."

Yukihira touched her forehead with her finger. "Oh, just great.." she breathed.

They had all forgotten about the case..

* * *

It was already late when they got a call from Principal Dan, from his office at DDS. Kyu told him about everything that happened, of course, absently including in the color of..

Mr. Dan winced as he heard someone get hit on the other side of the line.

When Kyu was done speaking, he said apologetically, "Sorry, Class Q, but apparently that was just a prank. You can return home now, and we'll talk about it tomorrow."

Everyone except Yukihira groaned.

Mr. Dan continued, "But this time, we got a call that seems to be for real. It appears that a robbery has happened near the beach. Of course, that is, if you're up to it.."

"Leave it to Class A this time, Mr. Dan," Kazuma said tiredly into the phone. "Just leave it to them."

=_= ..I was inspired today, but.. maybe some things are better left off unwritten? @_@
