Hiya, Kaoss-oholics! A mid-week blog, to make myself feel better, I guess.
As the tag line states, I have been in sunny Southwest Florida for a little over 9 months. And I write this with reservations: I love it down here, I really do. But there are things about down here I absolutely despise. Here is the list:
1. No friends. I don't know anybody down here, except for Walt, and Gerry. A big change from what I'm used to. My wrestling family, cab drving friends, childhood buds, the Above The Mat crew, the ARCARS group......
2. Cost of living is so flipping expensive! My current job, I make 12.50 an hour. In Michigan, thats a comfortable living. Down here, I'm lucky to keep up with the bills.
3. No wrestling to speak of. When I lived in Port Huron, I was generally between an hour to 2 hours from any show. Down here, it's at least a 3 hour drive for me one way, and there is never a payday guarantee. If I'm driving 6 hours round trip for a show, gas money would be nice.
4. Almost all of my family is in MI. My parents, my sister, bro in law and my beautiful niece; my wife's family, my step-daughter....it's been tough.
On the plus side, there is more work down here than you can shake a stick at.
http://www.news-press.com listed 102 pages of jobs last Sunday. There is no work in Port Huron to speak of, and the cab business has all but dried up. Gone are the days when I would drive 4 nights, and take home 600 bucks, cash. I know this move was imperative for the survival of my family. Before I left, we were going in debt pretty bad. But some days it seems it's not any better down here. Sharing a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house between 7 people doesn't help, either. I am a twisted wreck. And to be honest: if I could find a good paying job & a home back in MI, I don't think I would hesitate to go back.
Thats pretty much it. Thanks for reading, and feel free with the "I told you so's"......
