Character Name: Kurt Hummel
Series: Glee
Timeline: After Episode 1x06; “Vitamin D”
Canon Resource Link: Glee Wikia page on Kurt

Character Background:
Kurt’s history as a very “happy” little boy goes back to when he was three, and all he wanted for his birthday was a pair of sensible heels. This was the first indication to his father, even though Kurt didn’t actually voice it until he was in high school. At some point, presumably when he was young although it isn’t explicitly stated, Kurt’s mom passed away, leaving him alone with his dad. His…very conservative dad. But, however hick country conservative his father is, he does support Kurt.

He joined Glee as one of the first members of the revamped club, auditioning with the song “Mr. Cellophane” from Chicago. After spending the majority of his high school years being tortured - with everything from pee balloons to having his lawn furniture stapled to his roof - the Glee club was a place that Kurt finally belonged.

In “Acafellas,” Kurt forms a strong friendship with Mercedes, who mistakes it as a romance. She was very angry when he rejected her advances and got upset because she thought Kurt was leading her on and that he was in love with Rachel. But when he came out to her, an understanding was met and the two made up. This episode also implied that Kurt has a crush on Finn.

In the next episode, he tries out for the football team, as a kicker, to come up with an excuse for…dancing to Beyonce in a unitard riddled with sequins. Surprisingly, he actually makes the team by…dancing to Beyonce. No sequined unitard, though. But he was still fabulous. After winning the big game and getting the whole team to do a dance to Single Ladies, he finally comes out to his father, not without a heartwarming moment about how his father still loves him no matter what he is.

The next couple of episodes feature relatively little information on Kurt. In “The Rhodes Not Taken,” about the only notable thing that happens with him is receiving some sort of cocktail-in-a-thermos from guest star April Rhodes, resulting in heavy inebriation and puking on Ms. Pillsbury’s shoes. Next to nothing eventful happened with Kurt in “Vitamin D,” except maybe getting hyped up on sudafedrin with the rest of the glee kids. He does make it very clear that in a boys-vs-girls showdown, though, that he’d rather be on the girl’s team.

Abilites/Special Powers: He’s a normal kid. No superpowers.

Personality:
Chris Colfer, the actor that plays Kurt, sums up Kurt’s personality best: “[He] puts on a very
confident, 'I'm better than you' persona, but underneath it all he's the same anxious and scared teen everyone is/was at some point…He's a tough guy in designer clothes.”

That analytical view on his personality being covered, Kurt can be summed up in one word, barring the politically incorrect: flamboyant. He is a self-proclaimed fashion icon and, if you ask him, fashion is very serious business. “Every moment of your life is an opportunity for fashion.” And he thinks he’s superior to everyone in the school and apparently convinced the football team will work for him one day. It’s also noted that he’s spoiled by his dad, obviously not too severely though, since he did take Kurt’s car away when he found Kurt’s tiara collection in his hope chest.
