Author's Note: Because it's never too late for BIOTA fix-it fic. A big thank you to my
LLG cheerleaders for encouraging me to post this here. And, you know, for EXISTING.
Blaine Anderson confirmed his sexuality long before the sober kiss he shared with Rachel Berry.
In reality, he had been waiting it out, looking to let the girl down gently. As gently as one could in situations like these.
He had his confirmation the moment he met Leroy and Hiram Berry. The Berry men hadn't been too fond of Blaine, but despite that fact, he found himself in awe of the couple. (Their immediately dislike would have made more sense if he knew that only a few weeks ago, Rachel was urging Kurt to ask her Dads for advice on Blaine.) Meeting the Berry family did more for Blaine than any 'It Gets Better' campaign ever could. Here was a shining example of the life he had been told he would never have.
The fact that he would rather stay and ask them a thousand questions about the surrogacy process instead of taking Rachel to the revival theatre was a big red flag.
No, a rainbow flag.
With glitter cannons.
And a jet plane banner.
The date was fine, the conversation flowed easily. Blaine only felt uncomfortable when Rachel continued to point out how good they looked together. She reminded him every time they passed a reflection surface. He felt like an accessory instead of a potential love interest. Rachel didn't look at him with the adoration that he so often saw in Kurt's eyes, and thought he once saw in Jeremiah's.
He felt like a handbag. Like his only purpose was to accentuate Rachel's attire for the evening. (Did that sweater have a pony on it?)
Blaine didn't worry as much about letting her down easy anymore.
Flash forward to a few days later and he's exchanging rushed apologies with Kurt. They should probably talk about what happened between them, but they're both in such a hurry to get back to normal - whatever that is.
The look of adoration had disappeared from Kurt's eyes. Blaine would do anything to see it again.
