Kurt on top
Ok, before I start this rant, I would like to say that the reason I joined this comm was because of all the glee comms that I check out (not saying names) this one had the most mellow people. XD It helps that Kurt is adorable and Blaine so far is cool in my book and this is the pair that is closest to me shipping in this show, but still not officially shipping yet. I'm very picky, although BICO has me almost sold.. Anyway...
I've been checking the fanfics on this community and I've liked every single one of the ones I've read because they are funny and sweet. My experience with male homosexual fiction and fanfiction is that is all about the angst or crack and it's nice to see other sides too. Especially after reading my friends yaoi collection back in my teenage years. (Shudder) Look, I'm sorry, but I can't enjoy a romance when the first three chapters are about evil jerk raping brainless nubile boy. So, seriously, thank you for all the great fics.
That being said, there's something that came to mind after I read some of the more adult material here:
Hey, Kurt is a guy! (No, I'm not stupid; yes, there's a point to this)
He's stylish, I'm sure even though I suck at fashion. He sounds more like a girl than I do. Has a doll face and the body of a 15 year old Chinese gymnast and pretty nail. I bet he smells like flowers and his breath is minty fresh since his teeth are so perfect... what was my point-- Oh, yeah, he's a guy. Regardless of all those delicate lovable qualities that he has he's still a dude, even if he's gay. Because being gay =/= being a girl. Which bring me to the point I wanted to discuss...
Why is Kurt always bottom?! I have yet to find 1 fic of Kurt on top.
And I'm not saying that being bottom makes you a girl. That's silly. Plenty of straight guys and girls (lesbians and not) like dealing with that part of the body and others not (including some gay guys). My issue is not that Kurt bottoms, but that Kurt always bottoms and I can't shake the feeling that it's tied to how Kurt looks in relation to every other cast member including Blaine.
What's not to say that Blaine wouldn't want Kurt's biggus dickus up his roman trousers? Maybe out of curiosity or actual pleasure? Maybe they take turns like some couples?
This is not something that's just this comm. This dates back from ancient times to Japanese yaoi. The one that is more powerful or older does the penetrating. Pretty much every gay fanfic that I read when I was young followed this tradition to the point of templates that I felt disconnected with the genre and don't read anything with main gay characters until now.
But this comm has been different so far to my previous experience, which makes me glad. I've read fics when Blaine kisses first, and Kurt kisses first. Fics where either says I love you first, or hold hands first or even shows sexual interest first. So why not break convention from time to time? Look, there's nothing wrong about Blane on top, so why can't it be the same for Kurt?
Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to hide on my bunker before every angry person here slushies me. See ya!
