4. Elliott Brood - Mountain Meadows (2008)

C'on, Death Country, how great of a genre name is that? It's actually a bit more like death blues, but I'm being picky. Gravelly vocals singing over train-rhymth banjos and accoustic guitars, lyrics about traversing the Canadian landscape and about loss and ending, yes yes yes.
They are particularly good live. This album makes me happy, Oh Alberta and This Valley Town being two particular stand-outs for me.
I've been listening to lots of stuff like this lately, but this is the group that kicked it off for me.
