Just got back from seeing Goblet of Fire with Carlo, so naturally I'm going to talk about it now!
Man, I wanna go to school at Hogwarts. In that entire year they had ONE class, and all the rest of their time was spent going to parties and watching sporting events.
And wow, way to get us utterly hyped about the Quidditch World Cup and then immediately cut to it being over. TT_________TT
Two things that shocked and amused me to no end: Neville being practically a whole head taller than Harry (SO ADORABLE), and Cho Chang's blatant Scottish accent. XD Speaking of people being taller than other people, Hagrid/Mme. Maxime were so cute in a really really disturbing way.
In every movie so far they've left out everything about Snape's backstory and motivations, but I figured that since his being an ex-DeathEater is so important to... certain future installments of the series, they would have to give it a passing mention here. When Sirius started talking about all the potential bad guys within Hogwarts, I thought that would be a perfect opportunity for them to throw in Snape's name, but no. I started to get worried that maybe they weren't going to mention it after all, and Snape would have no lines for the rest of the movie! So I was pleasantly surprised when they kept all of Dumbledore's line in the trial scene, about Snape being a DeathEater-turned-spy at great personal risk. Plus the bit where Karkaroff shows Snape his Mark. And he got to be pretty awesome in that last scene with Barty FutureDoctorWho. Of course they left out the best scene in the book, where Snape shoves his Dark Mark under Fudge's nose, but I never expected them to keep that anyway; so I am appeased! Snape is still way too nice in the movies, though. He comes across as a really snarky and hardass but basically fair teacher, unlike the nasty power-tripping bastard he is in the books. Movie 6 is going to come as a real shock to some people. XD
Oh wait... I just now remembered Miranda Richardson was in there as well. She looked and acted great, but... honestly, was there any point to keeping Rita Skeeter? She did absolutely nothing for the plot. Maybe they needed to introduce her for her role in Movie 5? Except they left out the bit where Hermione kidnaps and blackmails her, so what leverage is Hermione going to have over her there?
And WTF was with the little Cirque du Soleil numbers the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang people did on their way in? I'm glad they kept in Fleur's bit with her little sister; and in the end when she said goodbye to Ron, I said "There goes the future Madame Weasley!" <3 Come to think of it, her being a stuck-up snob didn't come across at all, while both Krum and Deadric seemed a little more arrogant than in the book.
But OH. LORD FIENNESMORT. So incredible. *____* Now that I think about it, in the book I guess he had red eyes with slit pupils or something, while here he had Ralph Fiennes' eyes. Which IMO made him so much creepier and more real. Voldemort in fanart usually just looks like some freaky alien snakeman; but here, you could really believe that there was some handsome, charismatic guy named Tom who messed around with Dark Magic a little too much. His lines were the usual generic evil spiel but Fiennes did them SO WELL... okay, I'll stop before this gets embarassing. (Too late.)
