Persona 4 is quite an awesome game! Way better than Final Fantasy, I'll dare say. Final Fantasy is great, I'll admit that, but after FF 8 the game became just eye candy and side quests... I dunno its just me though. FF still has a place in my heart, though.
Persona 4 is all about making bonds, true bonds that won't be broken even by distance or anything else. For the first time, I actually felt that friendship really had worth and had hope for that thing called friendship. Maybe I can form true bonds with other people. Maybe friendship isn't 'I'm gonna hang with you until you're useless and when you are useless I'll leave you' thing. We all need other people that we can form bonds, true bonds with in order to get through life.
If the world had more Souji Setas, then the world will be a better place.
But society can be a cruel thing. There are others who are just not able to form bonds with others. Society is a harsh critic. If you don't fit society's description of normal, you are shunned.
And because of that people such as Mitsuo Kubo exist. I mean, take a look at Mitsuo's character design, it just makes you want to punch the guy. Plus if you learn about what he did (if you played the game) it may just make you hate the guy more. But who can blame him for being a copycat killer? He's an absolute zero craving attention that society never gave him because he was never normal. Society has just shunned him. His only personal satisfaction comes in the form of video games.
Let's face the fact, there are a lot of Mitsuo Kubos out there but we just ignore them because they're different. Some just downright make fun of them.
Maybe psychotherapy is there for those Mitsuo Kubos. But then again, basing from observation, Mitsuos out there wont take psychotherapy because taking it is admittance that they're crazy. Knowing these people, they wanted to be accepted for who they exactly are.
For Mitsuo, its all about facing himself and admitting there's something off about him, but no, he was still in denial and so might be the other Mitsuos out there.
Mitsuo's character made me realize one thing. Society can be cruel, if you can't fit in then society can be harsh to you.
And there's Tohru Adachi. Haven't I said already that society is really just shit? Take a good watch at this video, I dare you if you are reading this entry now.

I think the video said it all. It is just totally weird to say that out of all the characters in the game, I was able to relate with the bad guy the most. Adachi's pre battle specch made the good guys look like naive teenagers who only scream and whine. Only Naoto was able to launch a good counter against Adachi, and even with Naoto's counter, my opinion is not swayed yet.
Make a single mistake and people will be swarming on you like flies, even if you did countless good before, a single mistake is all it takes to bring yourself down. If you aren't born with that little thing called talent, you're a zero. If you can't fit in with society and have no talent, you are less than zero. Its reality.
I know exactly what Adachi's saying because I have exactly experienced it.
Even after finishing the game, Adachi's words still sticks to my heart, like a barbwire wrapping around my heart. Only a Souji Seta is the only one who can sway me from agreeing with Adachi. Too bad such people do not exist nowadays, right? Maybe they exist... I just haven't crossed path with such people yet.
Let's talk about the Midnight Channel. I personally think that the Midnight Channel is a reflection of society. People want attention. People want to learn about other people, especially the famous ones. This is specifically one of the reasons why showbiz exist, so that people can showcase themselves and people can learn about famous people and gossip about them. Let's admit it, people like talking about other people right? And in between these gossiping that lies are born. As a communication theory puts it, the more a tale is passed around, the more it becomes distorted, straying away from the original message.
As Izanami puts it, 'People want to show and people want to see'. People crave attention, it is natural and attention is a luxury of the famous and thus people want to be famous. When people see a single mistake, they'll swarm on that mistake like flies.
Here's my take on shadows, People maintain facade of good, so that people will accept them and in maintaining that good facade, we repress those about ourselves that can ruin our 'good facade', and that's where our shadows come from, in repressing our dark sides. Only in accepting who we really are can we master our shadows, but such a task requires a great amount of will.
But as I said, even if reality and society is one huge pile of shit, as long as we form bonds with genuine friends, we can face everything. All that is left is finding our true friends and keeping them.
LOL, quite a long entry! I just had to get that out of my system. Persona games are like EVA, it make my mind's gears move a lot. You can say that I am a fan of deep stuff.
