The Trip - Day 11
Ah, another lazy day. Well, not quite.
My plans in Aiken were two fold. One, stop and see an old friend. Two, drive to Savannah, GA and go to The Lady & Sons, Paula Deen's moderately famous restaurant. I've been hanging out with
devilindupriest since I got here, and today I was able to visit the restaurant.
After showing up two hours early to get a reservation, and then waiting outside of the restaurant to have our names called, we were seated in a refreshingly cool dining area.
To be clear, Georgia on a hot day is warm and humid. Not my kind of weather, but it eased off later in the day.
After an appetizer of a) one cornbread ho-cake, b) a garlic cheese biscuit, and c) a fine order of fried green tomatoes, we took part in the buffet. According to our waiter, it was the most famous meal in at The Lady & Sons, and for good reason. It was fantastically well prepared, with fried chicken, lasagna, grits, collard greens, candied yams, black eyed peas, and pretty much all sorts of other stuff. What really amazed me was that every single item was as perfect as I could ever hope to prepare it. If I were a a food critic I might find something to complain about, but as I'm not I can't. Here's a pic from the outside of the restaurant.
That little adventure took a long long while, so I'm now quite tired. I'll be heading home tomorrow, crossing nearly three thousand miles in the coming days. Hopefully I'll be home soon.
